Activities

Another event not to forget about…..
Scottish & Northern Curly Owners Meet Up
, 15 October 2023
A Meet Up has been arranged for 15 October at the Stables, Falkland Estate, Falkland, Fife, KY15 7AF. The hope is to foster a community spirit in the breed and to help promote the Curly. The organiser, Leslie Bain, has said, ‘the Estate is the former hunting ground of the Stuart Kings and has a superb mixture of tracks to walk in the stunning countryside of Fife. We will meet at the Stables where there is a dog friendly cafe serving hot and cold drinks as well as food freshly prepared. The Scones are fantastic.’

Mantrailing/Tracking, 7 October 2023
Shirley Buchanan & May, Fleetpaw First Lady, were out training on Saturday with North K9 Lost Dog Tracking Dogs. They had another great day together, once again flying the Curly flag. Shirley said ‘May and I really enjoyed seeing everyone and the weather was perfect for tracking‘. Well done both of you.

CAST Ozzy Memorial Scurry, 8 October 2023
Jo & Brett Clayton, Wendy Tarelli, & the Curly Gang were out and about on Sunday at their local dog training club CAST, ran by Caroline Penistone. The occasion was a Memorial Scurry, to remember Ozzy, who has been lost suddenly and way too soon, and to help his owner Marina raise funds for the Pet Blood Bank UK.
There were 27 dogs in attendance and they were split into groups for the scurry – Spaniels, Labradors & Vizlas, Golden & Curly Coated Retrievers, and Non-Gundog.
In the Golden & Curly Coated Retriever Group –
Jo Clayton’s Hebe – Gamesmere Dancing Queen At Firecurl was 2nd, and
Wendy Tarelli’s Deco – Hunters Pride Jurajska Gwiazda At Tarockwood was 3rd.
Jo’s Fennel, Pepperiever Fennel Of Firecurl, at 10 years old, won the overall Slowest Retrieve.
Of course, Nox – Firecurl Some Like It Hot At Tarockwood, Clover – Firecurl Georgie Porgie, and the newest member of the gang Sorrel – Firecurl Ace, just coming up to 14 weeks old, were there too, and there was a family re-union with Sorrel’s brother, Basil – Firecurl Maxim. Puppy madness…
Everyone had a great time and £304 was raised – well done, what a result. There was of course refreshments – sausage rolls, pies, quiche, cakes & millionaire shortbread, tea & coffee. There were rosettes for the winners, and gift bags of biscuits for all the dogs.

Critiques

City of Birmingham Championship Show, 3 September 2023
Jacque Bayne’s critique is now available here on the Show Results page

United Retriever Club, 9 August 2023
Judge: Mr Richard Stafford
Best Puppy In Show – Carrick Curly Coated Retriever Tessmene Tickety Boo , black bitch still only young but stood out in this line up for type and balance. Super head and expression, clean neck and well placed shoulders, not overdone in any way. Tight curl as expected held her top line on the move and went around the ring as if she owned it, well handled and presented.

Upperward of Lanarkshire, 13 August 2023
Judge: MR R Pollock (Pollham)
AV. GUNDOG NSC: Open (7,2)
2 Cummings’s Molokain Enchanted One, Retriever Curly Coated. Lovely bitch of good size and quality. Balanced head, nice neck set into well placed shoulders, good bone, deep body good angulation at rear. Excellent coat condition, moved well.

Wiveliscombe & District Canine Society, 29 July 2023
Judge: Colette Perkins
Graduate (2,0)
1. Courtier’s Maycourt Take Me To The Top – 8 mth black female, strong looking, wedge shaped head with parallel planes, well laid shoulders, deep chest and good spring of rib, moderate turn of stifle and well bent hocks. Very sound on the move for a baby, taking effortless strides and covering the ground well. BPIB
2. Courtier’s Maycourt Cover Shot – Liver, litter sister to 1 and slightly lighter in frame at the moment. Not the confidence of 1 and somewhat unsettled on the move. However, she has a really good head shape, muscular in neck and good front construction. Hopefully she will gain in confidence as she’s worth persevering with.

Open (2,0)
1 Edworthy’s Maycourt Heartbreaker – This a strong and upstanding black male who was very eye catching. Masculine, wedge shaped head, dark eye, small ears, strong neck, well laid shoulders, slightly prominent forechest, long ribcage and powerful loin. On the move, he really covers the ground well, he extends and drives well and is very athletic. BOB
2. Courtier’s Maycourt Stairway To Heaven – Liver bitch, longer through the ribcage and loin than 1, strong but elegant head, strong, clean neck, deep in the chest with a long well sprung ribcage, moderate turn of stifle and has good bone. Just not as strong or true behind as 1. RBOB
