Activities

The Working Curly

West Midlands Training Hub, 6 April 2024
It was the first Midlands Training Hub training day of 2024. Held at Sunnymead, Walcot, Telford, TF6 5EQ.

Lesley Eden told us,
Great to have The Kandrelli pups out training together today. Dusk, Ocean and Gorse, here with River their Mum, and Su Carlin also worked Kyri in this group. This is a quick photo after training. Thank you to Su Carlin for the use of her fabulous ground and to Aly Clayton who came and took some photos. Today we went back to look at how Habits are formed (cue – response – reward) and how we can help our dogs learn with building blocks of learning by how to look at the detail of an exercise (when it is broken down) and then putting it together. So things to practice Heel work as a position, not an action, ’fun hold’ building towards a puppy retrieve, recall, sit, down, recall, wait and stay – these are the basics of our ‘field craft’. Take your time and enjoy your training.

Aly Clayton told us this about the day,
It was great to be out and about at a training session, especially observing the skills the puppies were learning. Su has a great bit of land which she allowed us to use. Lesley started with the basics which gave the puppies a chance to settle into the session. By the end they had all displayed improvement. We stopped for tea and cake which was delicious. I had to leave after the first session but went away with tips to keep in mind for my next puppy whenever they appear.

Bank Holiday Fun
Shirley Buchanan, May – Fleetpaw First Lady & Glory – Curlies On Wings Crossroad Glory,  spent a fabulous couple of days at the 1940’s themed event at The Trolley Bus Museum at Sandtoft. They were there with the IABTC Super Sniffers. They had a great time and May & Glory made lots of new friends.

Barrow & District Kennel Association, 11 February 2024
Judge: Jill Holgate (Nadavin)
A.V. N. S. C. Gundog
Puppy (5,0) 1st Wynne-Jones’s Crimblescurl Dancing Queen (Curly Coat) BP RBAVNSC Reserve Best Gundog Puppy, This young bitch oozes quality and was unlucky to come up against the winner of the puppy group. Lovely wedged shaped head, dark eye. Neck strong and slightly arched. Straight in front, shoulders well laid back. Well sprung in the ribs following through to strong short loin. Moderate turn of stifle and moved with ease around the ring.

Bridgwater & District Canine Society, 24 March 2024
Judge: Helen Taylor-Morris (Pelenrise)
Post Graduate 3:0
1 Courtier’s Maycourt Cover Shot. A tough class to judge as all 3 of a similar type. This girl topped the class owing to her flowing lines, good reach of neck and correct body to leg ratios. Moved with excellent reach and drive and sound from all angles. Level topline with deep chest and correct coat texture. RBOB
2 Perkins’ Maycourt Miss Sweetness At Tengore. Well angulated with correct topline and excellent coat. Nice bone and feet. Good forechest. Moved true from all angles but lacking the drive of 1 today
3 Courtier’s Maycourt Take Me To The Top
Open 3:1
1 Stephens’ Ravenho Looks Like Trouble For Brightmeadow. Well balanced dog but wouldn’t want any more of him. Strong masculine head with good length to muzzle and correct eye and ear. Well angulated with strong bone and well arched feet. Chest is deep and well sprung, excellent forechest. Won this class and ultimately BOB with his easy ground covering movement.
2 Davies & Bradstocks’ Maycourt Kashmir Con Redanimo. Excellent type and lovely outline on the stack but just didn’t want to move in the ring we had today. Well proportioned, excellent size and bone, good feet.
