Judges Comment:
It was such a privilege to judge the CCRC Open Show on 24 February 2024 at their new venue at Stoneleigh. A big thank you must go to the CCRC Committee and Club Members for giving me this opportunity and especially the exhibitors for making this possible – it was a wonderful entry. Thank you also to stewards Karen and Aly who were very efficient and much appreciated. I was pleased with the larger size of ring which gave the exhibitors the opportunity to showcase their dog’s movement. I found judging more difficult than expected with many good quality representatives of the breed being present resulting in a lot of placings being so close that they could have easily been interchangeable on another day.

Upstanding,10-year-old liver dog. Good strong masculine head of correct wedge shape proportions. Small ears well set, good brown tone to eye, correct length of neck into well laid-back shoulders. Well put together with lovely front and rear assembly. Strong level topline with correct tail set and carriage. Good moderate bend of stifle, well let down hocks and neat tight feet. In good coat. Moved effortlessly with front extension and drive. Would just prefer to see him carrying a little more weight. BVD. RBVIS.

CLASS 3 Baby Puppy Dog (Entries 4, Absentees 0)

Lovely black baby boy with strong head, pleasing expression and dark eye. Correct mouth. Good forechest. Lovely outline when stood still and correct tail set and carriage. Nice curl to puppy coat. Moved well once settled which earned him first place today. BBPIS.
2. Stephens. Mr J. & Mrs M. B. Brightmeadow Rumour Has It
Another lovely, 4 month old black boy. Correct head shape, pleasing expression, correct mouth. Good bone and lovely crisp curly coat. Had a good overall outline when settled. Just preferred the movement of 1 today but note that this placing could easily be interchangeable with 1 on another day.

CLASS 4 Minor Puppy Dog (Entries 2, Absentees 1)

Promising, 7 month old, liver dog. Strong, masculine wedge-shaped head, nice brown tone to eye, correct mouth, well set ears. Good reach of neck into well placed shoulders. Well balanced angulation. Good tail set and carriage. Required moderate bend of stifle. Just needs time to mature. Good crisp curls to coat and even colour. Moved well with drive.

CLASS 5 Puppy Dog (Entries 5, Absentees 2)
1. Moore & Hayes. Mr A. & Miss V. Roughyeds Regal Weir
Promising, 9 month old, black dog, correct wedge shape head, dark brown eye, and pleasing expression. Good shape and set of ears and medium length of neck. Good overall front assembly. Strong level topline, the right moderate bend of stifle, well off for bone. Front feet yet to tighten up. Lovely thick curly coat. Moved well with good front extension, drive and enthusiasm so deserving of his placings. BPD, RBPIS.
2. James, Miss T. Kahawei Sea the Stars
A 10-month-old liver dog, larger size and mature for age. Correct wedge head shape and profiles. Would have preferred a slightly darker brown tone to eye but this should deepen with age. Good reach of neck into well laid-back shoulders with a visible forechest. Strong bone. Good level topline, tail set and carriage. Moderate bend of stifle and excellent crisp curly dark liver even toned coat. Moved ok when settled. Another with much potential.

Repeat (See 2. of class 5). Pleased to see him more settled on the move in this class covering the ground with drive making him worthy of first place.
2. Huckle, Miss E. Foxriever Storm Cloud
Lovely, 17 month old black dog, masculine wedge shaped head, good ear set and pleasing expression with a dark brown eye. Required medium reach of neck into well laid-back shoulders. Level topline and correct tail length and set. Good balanced overall outline. Moderate bend of stifle. Well let down hocks. Super tight feet. Coat ok. Needs time to mature. Moved well when settled. 1 had the more mature outline and quality of coat today.

Promising upstanding young liver dog. Lovely correct wedge-shaped head and proportions, dark brown toned eye and pleasing expression. Good medium length of neck into well placed shoulders. Level topline. Well balanced with good front and rear assembly and moderate bend of stifle. Nice tight feet. Has a good crisp curly dark liver, even coloured coat. Moved well with drive.
2. Emery, Mr E.J. Foxriever Midsummer Magic at Thunderguard
Another upstanding black dog of larger size, excellent strong masculine correct shaped head and proportions. Dark brown eye and pleasing expression. Good length of neck into well laid-back shoulders. Good front assembly. In great coat. Good bone. Moved ok. Just lacked the rear movement and drive of 1.

This dog certainly caught my eye today when he came into the ring. Elegant quality black dog. In excellent thick crisp curly coat. Correct masculine wedge shape head in both profiles and with skull and muzzle of parallel planes. Nice dark brown eye and pleasing expression. Good ears and correct length of neck into well laid-back shoulders. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Super outline when stood showing a well-balanced front and rear with good assembly. Correct tail length, set and carriage. Moderate bend of stifle and well let down hocks. Neat tight feet. Moved effortlessly around the ring with good front extension and drive, covering the ground well. One of the best movers today and so worthy of his placings. BD BIS

Upstanding black dog with a degree of elegance. 3 years old and maturing nicely. Correct head type and shape in both side and front profiles. Dark brown eye and pleasing expression. Correct length of neck, slightly arched leading into well laid-back shoulders, good width and front assembly with excellent visible forechest. Strong topline, correct tail set and carriage and super outline when stood. Moderate bend of stifle and tight feet all round. Good thick quality curl to coat. Moved well when settled. Pleased to award him RBD.

Upstanding 2-year-old black dog. Smaller type. Wedge shaped head, dark brown eye and pleasing expression. Good length of neck, front assembly and visible forechest. Good depth to chest and well sprung ribs. Level topline. Correct tail length and set. Well balanced throughout, moderate bend of stifle and tight feet. In excellent thick tight crisp curly coat. Little unsettled on the move. Preferred the overall outline of 1.

In excellent coat with a good crisp tight curl. Moved well with drive.

Mature, 6 year old black dog. Correct shaped lovely masculine head and proportions. Dark brown eye and kind expression. Good length of neck leading into well laid-back shoulders and well sprung ribs. Strong level topline. Moderate bend of stifle, well let down hocks and good tight feet. Good thick curl to coat. Correct length of tail and set. Excellent bone. Little on the heavy side today and not wanting to move, losing out on this to 1.

Straight forelegs, excellent depth of chest and well sprung ribs. Well balanced with good front and rear assembly. Super outline when stood. Excellent curly coat. Moved well with drive. So deserving of her awards. BB, BOSIS, RBIS, BVIS.

Another quality mature black bitch. Correct wedge-shaped head, dark brown eye and pleasing expression, good length of neck and well laid-back shoulders. Well balanced with good front and rear assembly. Straight topline and correct tail set. Good moderate bend of stifle, well let down hocks and tight feet. In excellent coat. Unsettled on the move. Just preferred the overall outline and movement of 1 today.
