An introduction – I first started showing in 2007 when I was 10 with an American Cocker Spaniel. In the past 18 years I’ve owned and shown American Cocker Spaniels, English Springer Spaniels, Labs and have also handled various breeds throughout several groups.
I had been around Curly Coated Retrievers through various friends, but it wasn’t until 2017 I had the chance to own a Curly. This of course was Eli, Sh Ch Talismanic Bag of Tricks. We had a great partnership together, ultimately gaining his Show Champion title. We went on together to win 6 CCs, 4 RCCs, a Puppy Group 3, and a Gundog Group 4. He wasn’t the easiest dog to show, he had a mind of his own but he was such a character. I’ve also handled Curlies for other people with some success and thoroughly enjoy it. I’ve found Curly People to be really friendly and supportive since I came into the Breed.
I first judged in 2016 at Gundog Breeds Association of Scotland open show. Since then I have progressed in my judging career sitting on level 2/3 for numerous breeds in the Gundog Group.
In past the 10 years I have been volunteering for the Young Kennel Club at various events around the UK, SKC and YKC camp and Crufts etc. In recent years, I have had amazing opportunities to be part of the main arena team at Crufts for running key events.
Really looking forward to Judging Curlies at the Breed Open Show.

PG 2(1)
1. Edworthy’s Brightmeadow Man of Steel. 2 year old male, typical masculine head, well angulated, strong top-line, correct bone, well conditioned feet, shown in excellent hard condition throughout.
O 3(0)
1. Edworthy’s Maycourt Heartbreaker. Just preferred the overall balance of 1 on the day, a tall 2 year old who has good proportions, has strong bone, correct feet and pasterns and balanced angulation fore and aft, masculine head, good reach of neck and well set shoulder, BOB.
2. Courtier’s Maycourt Take Me To The Top JW. Lovely female with good angulation but a little ‘heavy’ through the chest for me on the day but moved with an impressive ground covering gait, RBOB.
3. Harris’ Brightmeadow Wish Come True at Dreamcurl.
Okehampton & District Canine Society, 27 September 2025
Judge: Tim Ball (Kaitak)
PGD/B (1,0)
1. Courtier’s Maycourt Cover Shot. 2 yr old liver bitch who pleased for type and size and presented a good outline. Neck of moderate length, firm level back, deep brisket, muscular loin, correct croup and tail pleased for both set and carriage. Feminine headpiece with good proportions and planes, excellent eye, slight stop and correct dentition. Carrying good bone she stands true in front on super feet and pleased in forechest. Moderate length of stride on the go around and very good when coming towards. Coat could be better. Reserve BOB.
OD/B (1,0)
1. Courtier’s Maycourt Take Me To The Top JW. 2 yr old black who turned out to be the litter sister to the previous class winner. This girl very much appealed. She is well off for bone, of excellent type and presented a lovely well-balanced outline. Slightly arched neck of correct length to balance, firm in topline, excellent ribbing, well-muscled loin, correct croup and tail good for set and carriage. Attractive headpiece with approximately equal proportions, parallel planes, expressive oval-shaped eyes, ears of correct set and scissor bite. Straight forelegs, nice tight feet and super forechest. Opens up well when viewed in profile and nice and firm in the rear. Good quality coat. BOB.

PUPPY (3, 2 abs)
1st – Pavitt, Pavitt, Whitehead & Whitehead’s Foxriever Fire Cracker. BP. RBOB. PG2.
This 10 month old male was a bit shy to begin with, he responded well to his sympathetic handler, then he showed himself off very well. Impressive on the move with accurate footfall in all directions, good bone, straight legs all round, round tight feet. Shapely outline, very good lay of shoulder, firm thighs, ideal stifle and good angle at hock joint, hind pasterns parallel from behind. Evenly distributed tightly curled black coat. He is still maturing, and I am sure he will develop further, a very promising puppy.
SPECIAL YEARLING (4, 2 abs)
1st – Whitehead’s Foxriever Sea Fyre. BOB.
Lovely outline, good angulation fore and aft, plenty of depth of brisket, breastbone evident, front legs well under body. Attractive shape to feminine head, length of skull equal to length of muzzle, warm and friendly expression, small ears, neat lips. Medium length of neck, pleasing angulation fore and aft, ideal width of chest, straight front, very good bone, tight feet. Excellent spring of rib, rib cage well back to strong short loin, well developed hind quarters, straight when viewed from behind. Moved out very well with effortless stride. Distinctive black curled coat.
2nd – Pavitt, Pavitt, Whitehead & Whitehead’s Foxriever Fire Cracker.
Handler please watch, he can sometimes stand slightly bum high at the moment. Please also see critique for 1st in Puppy.
AV Gundog Junior (13, 8 abs)
3rd – Pavitt, Pavitt, Whitehead & Whitehead’s Foxriever Fire Cracker
He was getting tired here and did not move as well as in his previous classes. Please also see critique for 1st in Puppy.
