Curly Comms
Committee Nominations
As a reminder, Committee membership runs from AGM to AGM, normally four years apart on rotation. Therefore new Committee members join at an AGM, and in effect vacancies don’t occur until then. We need nominations by 1st November in case there is a need for a postal ballot.
At the time of seeking nominations we expected there to be four ‘vacancies’. Three Committee members whose terms were due to come to an end, Heather Barber, Caron Chattwood, and Vicki Hayes, plus a vacancy due to the resignation of Lesley Eden. Heather, Caron, and Vicki had already put themselves forward for re-election.
As at 1st November we had received four nominations and therefore a ballot is not required. Those re-elected to the Committee are Heather Barber, Caron Chattwood, and Vicki Hayes. The new member will be Di Courtier. We are so happy to see your return Di, after a short hiatus.
Breed Education Co-ordinator
Caron Chattwood has recently indicated her wish to step down as BEC, thank you Caron we are grateful for all you have done in this role. The Committee have asked Leslie Bain to take on the role, which he has accepted, and this is with immediate effect.
Judges List Co-ordinator
Further to the above a new role has been created, that of Judges List Co-ordinator. The Committee have asked Carol Johnstone to take on this role, which she has accepted, and this too is with immediate effect.
Curly Christmas Quiz 2024
Following the huge success last year of the Christmas Quiz, the Committee is delighted to once again invite everyone to join us for an evening of Christmas fun! Watch out for confirmation of the date coming soon!
CCRC Yearbook
Please don’t forget to start having a think about any articles and adverts for the 2024 Yearbook…. This year is the 125th year of the Curly Coated Retriever Club of Great Britain, and wouldn’t it be great to be in the Yearbook, and to have your article or achievements recorded for posterity in this very special commemorative edition.
Articles can be submitted free of charge for the Yearbook and it’s great if you can include some photographs – don’t worry about formatting any documents, if it’s easier you can email the text and photographs separately, we’ll pull it all together.
The prices for an Advert are £30 for a single page, and £45 for a double page. The specifications are – portrait page size is 15.4cm wide by 21.6cm high. Page margins need to be set at 0.8cm on all sides. You can fill the page with colour but any artwork, text and photos need to be within the margins. Please email the advert in ‘jpeg’ format.
If you have any problems with any of the above, have any queries, or need help to create your advert please email both of the Yearbook Co-ordinators, Wendy Tarelli & Jo Clayton
The deadline for submissions is 15 December 2024.

The Working Curly
This week we have a couple of updates from Curly owners who’s curlies are out there doing what they were bred to do….
Gundog Training – Working Minority Breeds
Rachel Arnold has been in touch to tell us that on the 10 November 2024, her and Kopis – Roughyeds Regal George At Treecave attended a gundog training session through Working Minority Breeds. She was thrilled to tell us that his gundog work is coming on in leaps and bounds and he’s enjoying being part of the working group on a local shoot. And Kopis is still just 18 months old…. Well done Kopis.
Gundog Work in the Perthshire Hills
Leslie Bain has been in touch with us to let us know how well Blue – Crimblescurl Time To Tango At Wenichones JW, has been doing with her gundog work, on the shoot. She has been out two days in the last week in the Perthshire Hills in glorious weather, and has now completed 20 days this season.
Leslie told us that Blue ‘just gets better and better at the job every day she is out. Today we got asked to retrieve a bird that neither of us had seen but were told the rough area it had gone into. Blue soon picked up the scent and was into thick gorse to then come out with the bird. Although we are in the beating line she has now picked up around 80 birds this season so far.’
Of course after working so hard through the week Blue then got all cleaned up and went on to win CCR Best Bitch at GBAS on Saturday.
Congratulations!

Leslie Page Memorial Veteran Stakes
Judge: Tim Ball
Class 1774. A.V. Gundog Veteran, 29/10
2. Stephens’ Sh Ch Brightmeadow Never Say Die JW ShCM. 8 yr old black Curly Coated Retriever dog. This lad gave the winner a real run for her money and is another right out of the top drawer. I thought him an excellent type and he was a delight hands on. Certainly strong and upstanding as the standard requires, carrying super bone and so very well balanced. Slightly arched, muscular neck, firm topline, nice deep brisket with ribbing carried well back, well-muscled loin and tail of excellent carriage. Masculine head of good proportions and planes. Sound all through and opens up well on the go around. Excellent coat.
Windsor Gundog Society, 2 October 2024

P (1)
1 May, Overbore Two Soups – 8 month old black female enjoying her day at the show, feminine wedge shaped head with dark almond shaped eye, well set ear that was correctly coated up, moderate length to neck that led into well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm, moderately sprung deep ribbing with short coupling and good tuck up, moderate bend to stifle, she stood on tight feet all round, slightly over exuberant on the move but looked to have good reach and drive when she settled. RBOB and BP.
J (1)
1 Boorman & Brown, Kahawei Star Catcher – 15 month liver male presented in good coat and condition, elegant in profile, correctly balanced wedge shaped head with almond shaped brown eye, good strength to medium length that was set into well laid shoulder with matching return of upper arm that set the front legs well under the body, deep well sprung ribs carried well back into short loin, strong rear quarters with moderate stifle, moved with good drive and reach. BOB
PG (1)
1 Leggett, Overbore Roman Candle – 2 year old black male of substantial type, masculine wedge shaped head with dark oval shaped eye, well set on smaller ear, strong neck with moderate front angulation, well ribbed, carrying too much weight today which affected his movement.
Wiveliscombe & District Canine Society, 28 July 2024
Judge: Tanya Lewis (Penmartan) – Breed & Group
I really enjoyed judging this breed.
Graduate (5,1) A super class.
1st Perkins’ Maycourt Miss Sweetness at Tengore. 20 month old black bitch, very pleasing outline, good head and expression, correct neck and shoulder placement. Well sprung, deep ribs, well bodied, short and strong in loin, good angulation, moved very well. Shown in excellent coat and condition. BOB.
2nd Courtier’s Maycourt Cover Shot, litter sister to winner. Liver bitch, not quite the head of the winner but also a good example of the breed. Correct neck and shoulders, strong body and moved well.
3rd Edworthy’s Brightmeadow Man of Steel. 9 month liver male, good coat, coming together well. His head will obviously break as he matures, strong well muscled hindquarters. A good prospect for the future. BP.
Open (4,2)
1st Courtier’s Maycourt Take Me To the Top. 19 month old black bitch coming along nicely. Typical head, good shoulder placement, deep cobby body, short coupled, good coat, moved well. RBOB
2 Edworthy’s Maycourt Heartbreaker. Black male of 3 ½ years, lovely type, good body properties, longer in loin than winner.
