Judge’s Critique:

I would like to extend my thanks to the committee for my appointment at what is to be the last cc allocation at this lovely show, which is a shame. Overall, the entry had some quality dogs, movement was good, and nearly all exhibited the correct crisp curls that the breed standard calls for. I would like to thank the exhibitors for accepting my decisions in a sporting fashion and braving the storm!

1st Riva, Miss K Tessmene Rock That Look
11 month elegant black, stood alone but would have held his own in company. Lovely soft expression and neat head good reach of neck flowing into a good lay of shoulder. He has a good depth to his chest and correct rear angulation which presents as good overall balance. He moved out well and maintained his topline on the move. Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy in Breed.

Nice, elegant dog, lovely head and expression, good depth of chest and lay of shoulder. Excellent crisp coat. Well coupled with good level topline, would just prefer a little more bend of stifle. The handler managed to present him to best advantage. In good hard condition and moved out well covering the ground with ease.

2nd Stephens, Mr & Mrs J & M B Ravenho Looks Like Trouble For Brightmeadow
14-month-old black. Strong upstanding young dog enjoying himself on his day out today. Clean well-balanced head, correct neckline, nice depth of chest leading into strong loin and well angulated rear end. Moved well once settled. He will take some time to mature into his frame but will watch his progress with interest. Well-handled.

Large 22-month-old elegant young dog. He is a good size, with a nice head and dark eye, has a nice reach of neck, good front and correct depth of chest. He is well off for bone with correct rear angulation, just needs to settle on move.

Upstanding black dog, he catches the eye with lovely head and soft expression, excellent crisp coat, lovely lay of shoulder and reach of neck going into correct depth of chest and well coupled with lovely balance overall. Moved out with drive, awarded him the reserve cc, in the challenge he just lacked the maturity of the winner, but his time will come very soon, I’m sure.

Another upstanding liver dog, 4 years old, he has a very masculine head, correct scissor bite and nice ear set with good reach of neck, going into gently sloping shoulders. Unfortunately, was slightly unsettled with the noise of the storm today.
Good overall balance, with good bend of stifle, nice tight feet, moved well. Just preferred the topline and driving rear movement of the 1st dog.

Lovely liver dog, 3 years old, one I have always admired and was so pleased to be given the opportunity to go over him today. He did not disappoint. Typical wedge-shaped head, correct eyes for a liver, with a good depth of muzzle and correct parallel lines. Excellent forechest and depth of chest, strong and slightly arched neck flowing into well laid shoulders. He is the correct height to length ratio with strong well angulated rear end and well coupled. Good width of second thigh and hocks well let down. Correct feet and excellent drive on the move. Pleased to award him the CC which gives him his crown.

Another good sized black, with lovely masculine head, good reach of neck and correct forefront he has the correct bone with good density and nice tight feet, good spring of rib, and strong hindquarters with moderate bend of stifle. Moved out well.

Lovely 11-month, black bitch very feminine head with lovely soft expression, lovely reach of neck, good lay of shoulder, well coupled and nicely balanced throughout, moved out with drive. One to watch, I am sure. Best puppy bitch, pushed hard for best puppy but the maturity of her brother just clinched it on the day.

2nd Perkins, Mr B J & Mrs S M Maycourt Miss Sweetness At Tengore.
Taller bitch, 7 months old and full of the joys of spring. Lovely feminine bitch with correct head and nice soft expression she has an excellent reach of neck with good front and spring of rib going to lovely rear hindquarters. She lacked the coat and maturity of the winner at the moment, but she should mature into a lovely bitch, moved well once settled.

14-month black bitch she really catches the eye for her femininity and grace, lovely soft eye with feminine head. Good lay back of shoulder with correct arched neck and good forechest. Straight forelegs with nice tight feet. Well-proportioned in the body, with a level topline and well balanced overall. Coat in good condition with a small tight crisp curl. Moved out well with drive. Delighted to award her the RCC.

7-month-old black bitch, just not in her best jacket today, she shows such promise for a youngster and when mature will be quite special. Lovely feminine head and good forehand assembly and reach of neck, correct depth of chest that reaches the elbow going into a well coupled short loin, the rear angulation is well balanced with hocks well let down. Moved well.

14-month black bitch, she has the correct wedge-shaped head and nice free flowing neck going into good front assembly. Shoulders well laid back, good depth of chest and well angulated rear end. Slightly nervous today but the weather conditions were spooking some dogs, moved well once settled.

Lovely 3 year old black bitch, she is of a good size and shows real star quality, very feminine with correct wedge-shaped head good arch of the arch of the neck free from any throatiness, good lay of shoulder and nice spring of rib she has the correct rear angulation with moderate bend of stifle and not overdone in any way. Super tight crisp curl. Moved effortlessly when asked maintaining her topline, unfortunately she was nervous to handle which cost her a card today.

2nd Whitehead, Mrs Denyse Jane & Whitehead, Mr Andrew Gypsy’s Soul First Lady For Foxriever (IMP EST)
Another nice elegant black bitch with sweet head and expression, good forehand assembly well tucked up and correct height to length ratio. Good overall balance with nice bone, moved well just didn’t have the drive and extension that the first bitch had.

1st Courtier, Miss D Maycourt Stairway To Heaven JW Lovely liver 3-year-old bitch, she has just reached the peak of maturity and fits her frame as the full balanced picture. Correct wedge-shaped head with correct eye pigmentation for her colour. Nice arch of neck, going into lovely lay of should with good forechest present. Her forelegs are straight with strong pasterns which was evident on the move. Deep chest with good spring of rib into nice tuck up and strong muscular rear hindquarters. Nice crisp curl. She didn’t disappoint on the move flowing around the ring freely maintaining a good topline. Pleased to award her third CC and BOB, and delighted when she was shortlisted in a strong group.

Another quality bitch who pushed hard to be in the cards today. Lovely feminine head with soft expression, excellent forechest, reach of neck and good lay of shoulder, nice deep chest going into well coupled rear end, nice topline with correct tail set. Good crisp coat but just slightly going out. She moved around the ring with drive. If I’m being picky, I would prefer just a little more length of foreleg. In the challenge I felt the winner just had the best overall balance in profile but I’m sure these bitches will swap places many times.
