Judge’s Critique
Firstly, I would like to thank the show committee for inviting me to judge our wonderful breed and for putting on a first class show at such a brilliant venue. It’s such a shame we are losing our CC allocation here in 2025.
Thank you to all exhibitors for being extremely patient whilst we waited for our ring to become available, it was a long day for the dogs, but they all put on a great performance despite the heat and waiting around.

1st – Miss A Clayton – Lizallwood Mr Bojangles, A liver in great coat and overall condition, at 20 months he is still maturing, he has the most appealing head and expression with lovely ear set. His character shines through when he’s on the move, he has style and catches the eye, holds a firm top line with correct tail carriage and nice amount of width at the rear. When free standing he gives a great account of himself, there is nothing overdone about him, well-muscled showing ample second thigh, this dog looks and feels like he could work all day. Delighted to award him the RCC.
2nd – Mrs M Edworthy – Maycourt Heartbreaker. 22 months Black. An upstanding young dog with lots to like, he has a wonderful coat and a lovely expression with a nice dark eye. Well off for bone. He has a good front with correct upper arm. On the move he is sound, showing correct reach at the front, he just needs to settle at the rear, which will come as he matures in to his frame.

1st – Mrs N Parker-Miles – Tengore Mr Moonlight. Black 2 ½ years old and still maturing. He is expertly handled and shown in hard condition. He is a strong upstanding dog with a lovely head and expression. He has a good reach of neck with a slight arch. Lovely front assembly. On the move he carries a firm top line and correct tail carriage. I would like to see him drive more from the rear. He tends to stand himself straight in stifle which can detract from his overall balance.

1st – Mr & Mrs Stephens – Sh. Ch Brightmeadow Never Say die JW Sh.CM. What can I say about this wonderful dog that hasn’t already been said? He is a great ambassador for the breed, I did well for him as youngster and he certainly did not disappoint me today, even after such a long wait in the extreme heat. For me, he is the blueprint of what I have in my head when judging, he is correct in size and substance and gives a picture of elegance, nothing is overdone about him. His coat is immaculate with an abundance of tight curls. He has the most expressive head with correct eye colour and correct ear set. His front assembly is correct giving a moderate forechest, lovely reach of neck in to well placed shoulders. His rear is excellent, with the required moderate turn of stifle. On the move, as his confirmation would suggest he excels, it is a pleasure to watch that ever-wagging tail which is carried to perfection on the move. Standing he presents a beautifully balanced picture and to top it off he has the best of feet. What a super star and could not be denied DCC & BOB.
2nd – Mrs S Mistlin – Maycourt Starman by Crookwood Sh. CM. Such a wonderful upstanding 8 1/2-year old Liver, unlucky to come up against the winner today. He is shown and presented in wonderful condition, a credit to his owner. He is well off for bone and substance but still carries himself with style and elegance. He strides out well using his well-muscled rear to advantage. He has the best of heads with such a melting expression and another who has lovely feet.

1st – Master H Parker-Miles – Overbore’s Ace of Hearts. A lovely feminine 16-month-old Black. She has a beautiful head and expression with the correct ear set and size. Presented in good hard condition with a coat of correct curl and texture. On the move she carries a firm top line and correct tail carriage, her young handler does a wonderful job of getting the very best from her.

1st – Miss D Courtier – Maycourt Stairway to Heaven JW. A 21-month-old Liver who was just coming back in to her full coat. She is up to size for me but extremely well balanced for her age. She has elegance and style and commands you look at her. Lovely head with correct eye colour, another who has the correct ear set and size giving that classic curly expression. On the move she excels, she carries a firm top line, correct tail carriage and drives round the ring. Pleased to award her the RCC.
2nd – Mr & Mrs Stephens – Brightmeadow Take One Look. A very sweet and feminine black in excellent coat with beautiful crisp curls. She is a picture standing with such balance and elegance. A very pretty head and expression. There is nothing overdone about her and lots to like. She put on a great performance on the move and held a firm top line. Another who has great feet.
3rd – Master H Parker-Miles – Overbore’s Ace of Hearts.

1st – Mr & Mrs Perkins – Tengore Sweet Georgia Brown. A mature liver who is well off for bone. She was well handled and moved out well with confidence. She is a workmanlike bitch, and nothing is overdone about her. She tends to stand herself a little straight in stifle which detracts from her overall balance. I would prefer a tighter curl to her coat.

1st – Mr & Mrs Spraggins – Tusepo Amazing Love. A 2-year-old dark Liver. This girl is a real beauty and for me is correct in size and substance. She is classy and shows style and elegance. Her coat is outstanding, those crisp liver curls are perfection. She is so well constructed and well-muscled. Her head piece shows the classic wedge shape with correct eye colour. On the move she just lacks confidence and her handler needs to work on this to bring out the great potential she has.
OB – 2 Entries
1st – Mr & Mrs Spraggins – Sh. Ch. Maycourt Hot Love at Tusepo. 5-year-old Liver who has an exceptional crisp curly coat and shown in wonderful hard condition. Upstanding and so well balanced. Standing she has the correct moderate bend of stifle and lovely front assembly. Strong well arched neck in to great shoulder placement. She has a beautiful soft expression and lovely neat ears. On the move she strides out well using that well-muscled rear. Her side gait is also impressive with lovely tail carriage, beautiful to watch her flowing lines float around the ring. BCC
2nd – Mr & Mrs Stephens – Brightmeadow Who’s that Girl – Another lovely Liver built on different lines to winner. I like her for size and substance. She has a lovely head with such expression in those eyes. She put a on an excellent performance on the move and strides out extremely well, her handler certainly gets the best out of her. She is in good hard condition and looks like she could go all day. Her coat was just coming back in to full bloom.
VB – 1 Entry
