Judge’s Critique

I would like to thank the National Gundog Committee for giving me the opportunity to judge Curly Coated Retrievers at their show. I would also like to thank all the exhibitors who gave me their support in giving me their entry, it is very much appreciated.

VETERAN DOG (2)
1. Miller and Millichamp, Curlabull Iron Lion Zion ChCM
Black dog 101/2 years old, a real veteran who still has what it takes. Excellent masculine head, excellent neck, shoulders, topline, kind expression, well off for bone, well balanced, good bend of stifle, moved well. BEST VETERAN.
2. Mistlin‘s Maycourt Starman by Crookwood.
Liver dog 81/2 years old with a beautiful outline, kind expression, good forechest and correct angulation both ends. Good curly jacket, just preferred No 1 for type. Moved well.

PUPPY DOG (2)
1. Davies and Bradstock Elgar’s Enigma Tornado Beta con Redanimo
10 month black dog, quality puppy good wedge shaped head and small ear, oval shaped dark brown eyes. Correct dentition, well balanced throughout. Well placed shoulders, good reach of neck. Was the best mover in the class but could do with going to Ringcraft.
2. Hodsons Rowancurl Gentle Gaelor
Black 10 month dog. Handsome kind expression, dark eyes, good reach of neck leading to well placed shoulders, strong rear quarters, good tail set. Lost out to 1 on movement.

POST GRADUATE DOG (2)
1. Davies and Bradstock Maycourt Kashmir con Redanimo
A class with 2 litter brothers. 22 month of age, black, most appealing head, kind eye, good reach of neck leading into well placed shoulders, good front assembly and strong rear quarters. Moved ok.
2. Edworthy’s Maycourt Heartbreaker.
Black, very well presented with a very good tight curly jacket. Plenty of bone, kind expression, good dentition, plenty of substance. Just preferred his brothers head.

LIMIT DOG (4)
1. Boorman’s Tessmene Talk of the Town.
This liver dog caught my eye as soon as he came in the ring. Really super dog. Plenty of va va voom. Good head planes with good outline, well off for bone, very well balanced throughout, good depth of chest, well angulated hindquarters. Tight curly coat. Moved very well indeed. Res CC.
2. Parker-Miles Tengore Mr Moonlight.
Another very good dog, well presented. Masculine head with kind expression, correct dentition good coat, well balanced, moved very well.
3. Solomon’s Foxriever Mystic Marvel

OPEN DOG (2)1A
1. Stephens Sh Ch Brightmeadow Never Say Die
A superstar among curly coated retrievers, this dog ticks all the boxes. Black fine upstanding dog, who could not be denied top honours. Well presented, excellent coat conformation and angulation. Good wedge shaped head dark oval shaped eyes, strong neck flowing freely into well laid back shoulders. Moderate turn of stifle, well let down hocks. Effortlessly moved around the ring with good extension despite the heat of the day. B.O.B. CC

VETERAN BITCH (1)
1. Perkins Sh Ch Kelsmere Kass of Tengore
Black 8 years of age. Very feminine with a lovely head, eye and a very kind expression. Good conformation, coat and movement.

JUNIOR BITCH (1)
1. Parker-Miles Overbores Ace of Hearts
Black, very feminine, very pretty head, dark eye, good in profile, good dentition. Coat not at its best, not much substance to her. Moved ok.
SPECIAL BEGINNERS BITCH (1)
1. Wynne-Jones Crimblescurl Cherry
Black, very feminine throughout, lovely head, gentle expression, good make and shape, in good coat. A little straight on her hind quarters, moved ok.

NOVICE BITCH (1)
1. Wynne-Jones Crimblescurl Wild Otter
Liver at her first show. Very good in profile, pretty head in good proportions to body size. Strong slightly arched neck flowing freely into well laid back shoulders. Good coat, tight feet, moved soundly.

2. Parker-Miles Overbores Ace of Hearts

POST GRADUATE BITCH (2)
1. Courtier’s Maycourt Stairway to Heaven
Liver bitch in super condition, very feminine head, plenty of elegance about her, good eye colour, well constructed throughout. Strode out with plenty of drive.
2. Perkins Tengore Sweet Georgia Brown
Liver bitch with a very pleasing head and eye, well off for bone, good crisp coat, just a little unsettled today.

LIMIT BITCH (3)
1. Carrick’s Tessmene The Cats Whiskers
Super black bitch in excellent coat, very feminine soft expression. Good dentition, well angulated at both ends, deep chest with well fitting elbows. Correct topline, round tight well arched toes, moved and showed well.
2. Spraggins Tusepo Amazing Love
A medium sized liver, good coat, well off for bone, well coupled with good front and rear angulation. Moved and presented well.
3. Perkins Tengore Ruby Tuesday

OPEN BITCH (2)
1. Davies and Margerision Infallibles Black Velvet at Kandrelli
A very strong class with 2 top quality bitches which were both worthy of top honours, in which I’m sure will trade places time + time again.
Very upstanding black bitch with a lovely feminine head and a very kind expression, a good long reach of neck into well laid back shoulders. A moderate spring of ribs with excellent rear angulation with well muscled rear quarters, correct tail set. Moved very well and was delighted to award her the Bitch CC.
2. Spraggins Sh Ch Maycourt Hot Love at Tusepo
Another top quality bitch, lovely make and shape, very feminine throughout, excellent neck + shoulders, well off for bone, crisp curly coat, good ribs, well muscled, correct tail carriage. Sound and stylish. Res CC.
