Judge’s Critique

What a super day at National Gundogs there was a wonderful atmosphere and buzz around the rings. It was a privilege to go over so many dogs, thank you to the committee for my invitation to Judge at this superb show and giving me the opportunity to give tickets for the first time. I was so excited to be invited to Judge but it turned out to be extra special as it was the first show in eighteen months since the Covid19 lockdown. It was truly wonderful to see so many new dogs in the show ring, with people that we have not seen in the show ring for a while. The true two heroes of the day though were my Stewards who worked all day without a break, a very big thank you to two exceptional people.
VD (1,0) 1 Miller & Millichamps Curlabull Iron Zion ShCM. A lovely 9-year-old dog with a good dark eye set in correct wedge shape head with balanced ears, plenty of bone, level top line on the move, in good coat, deep chest with well sprung ribs. PD (3,1) 1 Stubbs Brightmeadow Take Your Time at Densdale NAF. A super 9-month-old black dog, in very good coat. Level top line and moved with drive around the ring, he has plenty of bone and is developing a nice spring of rib and deep chest, tight feet, typical wedge-shaped head with kind expression and nice dark black eye. 2 Edworthys Maycourt Heartbreaker. Another lovely growing 9-month-old black puppy who was not in as good coat as first. Super head, lovely expression with dark eye, well boned, lost out on movement to first, but one to watch for the future. JD (3,1) 1 Solomans Foxriever Mystic Marvel. 16-month-old black dog with plenty of bone, in good tight coat, lovely wedge-shaped head with correct eye, adequate bend of stifle, Level top line. Moved with drive and purpose. 2 Edworthys Maycourt Heartbreaker. LD (5,1) 1 Betts Infallibles Black Crusader at Kelsmere. Black dog, lovely wedge-shaped head nice dark eye, good reach of neck leading into strong shoulders and level top line and good length of body. moderate bend of stifle, nice tight feet, moved well with purpose around the ring., in good coat. 2 Massons Tessmene Summer Solstice. Lovely balanced dog in good coat but curl not as tight as first. Eyes dark in wedge shaped head, good reach of neck deep chest and adequate loin, moved well. 3 Miller & Millichamps Foxriever Solent Sensation at Wightcurls. OD (4,0) 1 Stephens Sh Ch Brightmeadow Never Say Die JW ShCM. Well, what can I say, this dog didn’t disappoint strong, upstanding dog, well balanced throughout with plenty of bone who commanded the ring as soon as he entered it. Good tight coat, strong neck with correct layback of shoulder, deep chest with good spring of rib. Strong wedge-shaped head, nice dark gentle eye, correct tail carriage and tight feet. Moved with rhythm and drive around the ring. DCC, BoB. Titleys Fleetpaw Wandering star. Lovely Black dog in good coat, pleasing head, nice dark correct eye, good body length with level top line. Moved well with purpose and drive RCC. 3 Mistlins Maycourt Starman by Crookwood ShCM. 8-year-old liver, good curl and texture to the coat well muscled body, deep chest with strong shoulders and level top-line. Moved well but not with as much drive and enthusiasm as the winners BV. VB (1,0) 1 Spraggins Pepperiever Love in a Mist at Tusepo. Balanced 8-year-old, in good coat, strong neck, deep chest with good length of loin. Moved well. PB (2,0) 1 Stephens Brightmeadow take one look. 10-month-old black in good coat, nice dark eye, good spring of rib and bend of stifle. Moved well BP. 2 Maycourts Stairway to Heaven. 10mth old liver, who has a lovely wedge-shaped head with kind expression, well balanced but still growing at the moment, not in as good coat as first. JB (3,1) 1 Rules Overbore’s Perfect Storm. Compact liver, well balanced and in good coat. Nice head and eye, well boned, good depth of rib, nicely muscled. Correct tail carriage. 2 Maycourts Stairway to Heaven. NB (1,0) 1 Spraggins Tusepo Amazing Love. On one of her first days out, in good coat, compact feet, well balanced body, moved well once she settled and gained confidence. GB (5,2) 1 Davies & Margison Infallibles Black Velvet at Kanderelli. In super coat, beautiful dark eye nicely balanced throughout. Good bend of stifle, moved well with drive

around the ring with level top line. 2 Findlows Roughyeds Audrey Roberts. Lovely wedge-shaped head nice head with super dark eye, good reach of neck and length of body, happy in the ring, but not in as good coat as first. 3 Spraggins Tusepo Amazing Love. PGB (3,2) 1 Findlows Roughyeds Audrey Roberts. LB (5,1) 1 James Kahawei Teal JW. Lovely balanced four-year-old black bitch, just right for type, good depth of chest beautiful small eyes, good length of loin and depth and spring of rib. Level top line moved with drive and purpose with correct tail carriage. I have watched this lovely bitch develop from a puppy and it was good to see how she had matured and developed. I was delighted to award her the BCC. 2 Stephens Brightmeadow Who’s that Girl. Lovely head and expression, good reach of neck leading into strong shoulders, good spring of rib and length of loin, adequate bend of stifle, in excellent coat, level top-line, moved with drive RCC. 3 Spraggins Maycourt Hot Love at Tusepo. OB (1,0) 1 Findlows CH All I Ever Wanted Golightly Roughyeds (IMP LVA). Lovely head, nice dark eye with gentle expression, good spring of rib, well-muscled throughout. Level top line, moved with drive and purpose.
