Judge’s Critique:

It is almost 50 years since my first introduction to this breed, at one of the first Sanction shows I attended. I have a vivid memory of sitting by an elderly Lady who had the most gorgeous retriever, which I soon learned was a Curly Coat. Mrs Till engaged me in conversation about the breed which has never left me and I have admired it’s never changing qualities that have resisted the effects of fashion.

To step into the ring and have the honour of awarding certificates was most humbling.

Impressive young man, upstanding and of good size, with strong bone and good coat. Front straight and deep, good length to rib, gentle fall to croup, tail well set and muscular hindquarters. Moved soundly.

2nd: 4702 EMERY, Mr Ethan-James Denis Owain FOXRIEVER MIDSUMMER MAGIC Upstanding dog, nicely shaped head, dark hazel eye. Coat of good texture. He is a little weak in hock at the moment, so work to be done.

Chest deep through, ribs well back, croup falls slightly to tail set, wide quarters. He has a lovely head, correct in stop, lovely eye shape and colour. With maturity he will let down into his hocks and improve his movement, but certainly a rising star

In outline, he is firm in topline, deep through chest and has a complimentary underline presenting a classic shape showing desired strength. He sits on wide quarters, well turned stifle and developed second thigh. When viewed from the front he is true, elbows well in, excellent bone and feet. A beautiful breed typical head and expression.
