Judge’s Critique:

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for the superb entry,  and from the level of applause from around the ring, how well my decisions were received. There were some outstanding exhibits which were a joy to go over.  I was looking for a dog who was Fit for Function, strong, elegant, well  muscled and showing the nobility of the breed.

I was disappointed to find a number of poor mouths, level bites, undershot and misaligned teeth. This is something that breeders need to be aware of in their breeding programmes.  Coats, on the whole were good, but many were over trimmed; the tight curls should be a protection for the dog in water.  Rear movement has often been criticised in curlies and in some exhibits this was very poor, leading to very close hind movement and a lack of drive from weak hocks.

BV  Kamarauskas  Multi Ch Laguna Love Curly Cleo Capricorn

Veteran Dog

1st  Multi Ch Laguna Love Curly Cleo Capricorn.  (Mr S.E. Kamarauskas)
A standard sized dog in excellent coat. He has a pleasing wedge-shaped head, scissor bite and  good eye colour. Correct length of neck a level topline and correct tail carriage. Sufficient bone for a male with a good spring of rib and showing forecast. He moved straight and true. Expertly handled to show off his attributes. BV

2nd  Maycourt Starman by Crookwood ShCM  (Mrs S Mistlin)
A taller dog who was not in as good coat as 1st.  A little heavy in head, but super bone and tight feet.  He moved out well with a happy, wagging tail.

Puppy Dog

1st   Molokain Doing the Do at Cetgueli  (Ms S. Finch)
A balanced and elegant male. Well developed for his age with excellent muscle and a well developed second thigh. A wedge shaped head with dark, almond shaped eyes. Scissor bite. Excellent bone, straight legs and tight feet. Good spring of rib and length of loin. In excellent coat and move with purpose.

2nd  Ravenho Comradei Cymro  (Miss C & Mr G Green)
Not as mature as 1st but showing some good qualities.  In very good coat for his age. Pleasing, wedge shaped head with correct amount of stop. Dark eye, scissor bite. He moved out well when he settled. He needs more weight and muscle development and then he will be an eye catcher.

3rd   Ravenho Tallow Tango at Pattonia  (Miss F & Mrs P Valentine)
Slightly larger dog and not as good in coat  but similar comments apply as litter brother. He would benefit from ring training.

4th   Foxriever  Solent Solstice at Wightcurls  ( Mr P & Mrs B Miller & Millichamp)

5th  Foxriever  Midsummer Magic  (Mr E Emery)

Junior Dog

1st  Rowancurl Gentle Gaelor  (Mrs H. Hodson)
One to watch for the future. Up to size but has many excellent qualities. Elegant and workmanlike, he has an excellent coat of tight curls. Wedge shaped head with a good depth of muzzle, scissor bite. Superb bone and tight feet. Level topline and tail carried correctly. Good spring of rib. Well angulated front and rear without being overdone. This showed in his flowing, driving movement around the ring. He pushed hard for the RCC , he just needs to tighten in his front movement.

2nd  Molokain Doing the Do at Cetgueli  (Ms S. Finch)

3rd Rowancurl Pullman Porter  (Mrs V & Mr K Dooley)
Another nice dog to go over.  A little behind the first two in maturity and ring confidence. The type of head I was looking for. Good bone and feet. In good coat and well angulated.  He just needs time.  The first three dogs in this class will change places many times and look positive for the breed.

4th Foxriever  Midsummer Magic  (Mr E Emery)

Post Graduate Dog

1st  Bazzy Inti Anka at Molokain  (Mr S. Clack)
Liver male with the best coat in the class. He is a balanced dog who gives the impression of strength and endurance. He has a wedge shaped head with a good eye colour for his coat colour and good eye shape. He has a good depth of muzzle and a scissor bite. I would prefer slightly less stop. Good ear size and placement giving a kind expression. Well off for bone, tight feet and scores in his excellent shoulder placement and balanced rear angulation.  Deep ribs and good forechest. He covers the ground easily with purpose and drive.

2nd  Brightmeadow Take Your Time at Densdale  (Miss J. Stubbs)
Another quality male it was a pleasure to go over. Super head and eye, scissor bite. Good length of neck and sufficient bone. Straight front and tight feet. He has a tendency to drop his topline on the move.

3rd  Caballus The Black Stallion  (Mrs G Toeters-Rietoff)
Black dog who has lovely bone and good front angulations.  A good depth of chest and correct spring of rib. Correct length of loin and a level topline.

4th Bling Bling Flash  Cz Jun Ch  (Ms K Duskova)

5th  Overbore’s Double or Stick  (Mrs C & Miss L Killick)

Limit Dog

1st Tessmene Talk of the Town  (Miss Boorman)
A pleasure to judge this dog. He is an honest, workmanlike dog. He has a typical wedge shaped head with a good depth of muzzle and scissor bite. A kind expression and neat ears. His eyes are a good colour for the liver coat and not too large. Excellent shoulder and rear angulations, well let down in hocks and well muscled, all of which enabled him to move straight  and with drive. In excellent coat, small, tight curls. Deep in chest with plenty of spring of rib and correct length of loin. RCC. I understand he has 2 CC’s, the third will not be far off.

2nd  Tengore Mr Moonlight  (Mrs Parker-Miles)
How unlucky this dog was to meet 1 in top form. Another balanced dog in excellent coat who pushed the winner hard. Expertly handled to show off his best attributes. Good head, level topline, well off for bone. I would prefer slightly more rear angulation to balance his good front assembly.

3rd Firecurl Some Like it Hot at Tarockwood  (Mr R & Mrs W Tarelli)
Liver male, also in excellent coat. Pleasing head and expression. Deep chest and good forechest. Good angulations front and rear. Moved out well.

4th Lizallwood Mr Bojangles  JW  (Miss Clayton)

5th  Foxriever Solent Sensation at Wightcurls  (Mr P & Mrs B Miller & Millichamp)

Open Dog

1st  Sh Ch Brightmeadow Never Say Die JW ShCM  (Mr J & Mrs M Stephens)
This dog did not put a foot wrong. He is a balanced male who gives the impression of strength and elegance. An impressive head, deep in muzzle, correct amount of stop, scissor bite. A kind, gentle expression from dark eyes of correct size and shape. Neat, well placed ears. A good length of neck which flows into his level topline. Well laid back shoulders and ample forechest. Deep, well sprung rib cage. Correct rear angulation and well let down in hocks. Tight feet and short nails. He has the correct coat of small, tight crisp curls. He moves straight and true with a correct tail carriage. CC BOB

2nd  Flairfor Down to the River  (Mrs C Mouly)
Taller, upstanding dog with the correct coat of tight curls.  He excels in head, dark eye and scissor bite. He has a superb front assembly and excellent forechest. Excellent bone and tight, well padded feet. Level topline and well angulated rear quarters. He has a tendency to pace, which cost him in the challenge.

3rd Hunter’s Pride Jurajska Gwiazda at Tarockwood (Imp Pol) (Mr R & Mrs W Tarelli)
Black male with a pleasing head and scissor bite. In excellent coat. Deep in chest with a sound, straight front.

4th  Sh Ch Foxriever Picture Perfect for Blanshard  (Mrs H & Miss B & Miss H Barber)

5th Nld/Swe Ch Fiere Muloc Van Elegast Nld Jun Ch (Ms C Van Rijn)

Good Citizen Dog Scheme Dog

1st Fleetpaw One for Arthur  (Mrs H Driscoll)
Standard sized liver male in good coat. A little heavy in the head for me but still a quality dog. He is balanced, deep in chest, has good bone and holds his topline when moving. Well handled.

2nd Karnawalowy Drink Z Basisfory (Imp Pol)  (Mr P & Mrs R Baines & Hawley-Clarke)
Another nice dog of good size and proportions. Well off for bone and in good coat.

Veteran Bitch

1st  Sh Ch Kelsmere Kamana for Foxriever  (Mr A. & Mrs D. Whitehead)
Black bitch of good size. Pleasing head, good length of neck, ample forechest and good depth of chest. Coat with some open curls. She would benefit from losing some weight.

2nd Pepperiever Love in a Mist at Tusepo  (Mr N & Mrs S Spraggins)
Pretty girl, smaller size. In good coat. Short coupled, deep in chest and handled well.

Puppy Bitch

1st   Ravenho Up Town Girl for Brightmeadow  ( Mr J & Mrs M Stephens)
This girl is very well developed for her age. A standard sized bitch giving the impression of nobility and elegance. She has a pretty, wedge shaped head with the correct amount of stop. A dark almond shaped eye, good ear placement and a kind expression. Correct mouth. Good bone, tight feet and well let down in hocks. She is very well muscled for her age and has a distinct second thigh. Very balanced in outline and moved around the ring with a true driving action. In excellent coat. One with a very bright future. RCC & BP

2nd  Molokain Hocus Pocus  (Mr S Clack)
Another girl with a bright future. A different type and many excellent qualities. Head of correct shape and length, correct mouth. Good length of neck and good shoulder placement. Strong topline and very well muscled hindquarters. In superb coat. She is an honest and very sound bitch. Another who knows how to use her powerful rear quarters to drive herself forward.

3rd Ravenho Mochara Cadeaux  ( Mrs A. Moskowitz)
Black bitch  not as mature as the first two. She has a pretty head, good neck and shoulders. She needs more ring training and confidence.

4th Ravenho Toulouse Latresco at Beddgelert  (Mrs J. McKenzie)

5th Foxriever Ritual Flame  (Mr A & Mrs D Whitehead)

Junior Bitch

1st Rowancurl Guardian Angel Jun Ch Bel (Mrs V Dantan)
Liver bitch I liked a lot and she has many of the same qualities as her brother, the junior dog winner. She is top size but balanced. A very good head, correct bite, and good depth of muzzle. Very good front and rear angulations. Excellent muscle tone.

2nd Echoes of Thunder from Tornado Beta with Ricanded (Imp Ltu)  (Dr N. & Mrs L Eden)
A pretty, standard sized bitch with lots of qualities to like. She is well balanced and fit. Super bone, good feet and in excellent coat. At this stage she has a tendency to drop her topline, something for the handler to watch and something that will probably strengthen with age.

3rd  Rowancurl Beachcomber  (Mr G & Mrs J Evans)
Litter sister to winner but at this stage more rangy, she would benefit  from carrying more weight.

4th Stormacre Family Portrait for Foxriever  (Mr A & Mrs D Whitehead)

5th Ethereal  Glaze from Tornado Beta for Haneslau  (Imp Ltu)  (Mrs S Carlin)

Post Graduate Bitch

1st  Gorchest’s Pendlecurl’s Rising Star at Pepperiever  (Imp USA) Miss V & Mrs N & Mrs L & Ms Hayes & Bigin & Walton & Chattwood)
How aptly named this girl is. So naughty and what a character. This is a bitch where you have to put your hands on to fully appreciate her outstanding qualities. Standard sized and very pretty. She is completely balanced throughout. Beautiful head and good mouth. Balanced angulations and not overdone. When she did finally decide to move, she demonstrated a positive and true driving action. One to watch in the future.

2nd Crimblescurl Time to Tango  (Mr L & Mrs M Bain)
Unlucky to meet 1st  but still a quality girl. Pretty head and good mouth. Good neck and shoulders. Good spring of rib. I would prefer a little more rear angulation to balance the good forequarters. In good coat and handled well.

3rd  Overbore’s Ace of Hearts  (Mrs S & Mr H Parker-Miles)
Black bitch, heavier in head then the first two. She has excellent bone and a good coat. Handled  very well. She would benefit from losing a little weight.

4th Kukkesen Keita by Caballus  ( Mr G & Mrs J Evans)

5th Crimblescurl Beech  (Mrs N Dick)

Limit Bitch

1st Molokain Enchanted One (Mrs J Cummings)
A black bitch who excels in her reach and drive and handled to show off this movement. She has a long, wedge shaped head with the correct amount of stop. A dark eye and a scissor bite. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders and a good forechest. Level topline and excellent rear quarters. She is well muscled and in superb coat of tight curls. An honest bitch who could do a day’s work, yet she still has elegance.

2nd  Tusepo Amazing Love  (Mr N & Mrs S Spraggins)
A quality bitch whom I liked a lot and was unlucky to meet 1st. A lovely head, feminine yet looking as if she could carry game. Nicely balanced front and rear angulations. She had a tendency to drop her topline.

3rd Blue Willow at Ravenho  (Mrs A Moskowitz)
A quality bitch with a super head  but carrying far too much weight. In good coat with good bone and feet.

4th  Celebrated Caraamel from Tornado Beta (Imp Ltu)  (Mrs S Carlin)

Open Bitch

1st Sh Ch Infallibles Black Velvet at Kandrelli  (Mr S & Mrs S Davies & Margerison)
This bitch has elegance and strength. She gives the impression she could work all day but still maintains the essence of femininity. She has a pretty head, however I would prefer more working to her head. She is completely balanced, a correct length of neck, excellent shoulder placement and a good forechest. Good spring of rib and deep in chest. A correct length of loin for a bitch. Well muscled and correctly angulated at the rear. Well let down in strong hocks. Her strong and positive movement helped her to win this quality class. She has good reach from her shoulders and uses her well muscled rear quarters to push forward. CC & BOS

2nd Sh Ch Maycourt Hot Love at Tusepo  (Mr N & Mrs S Spraggins)
A bitch I have done well before. She has a superb coat, excellent bone and tight feet. Heavier in head then 1st. She has very well constructed forequarters but I felt not the balance of rear quarters.

3rd Grand Ch Cz/Cz ch Bianca Into Anka  Jch (Mrs I. Rindosova)
A standard size elegant bitch. Excellent head, good neck and a strong topline. Balanced angulations front a rear. Moved out well and handled to her advantage.

4th  Sh  Ch Kahawei  Teal   (Miss T James)

5th Dutch Ch Dutch Curly Pommery Clos  (Mr Leduc)

Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bitch

1st Fleetpaw First Lady  (Ms S. Buchanan)
Pretty liver bitch, very elegant. A long wedge shaped head, good length of neck and a strong topline. She is very well muscled and very in tune with her handler.

2nd Tessmene Tea for  Two at Beauport  (Miss P Janks)
A heavier black bitch. In good coat and moved ok.

3rd Ravenho Toulouse Latresco at Beddgelert  (Mrs J. McKenzie)
