Judge’s Critique:

First I would like to thank the committee for their invitation to judge at this lovely show.
Serving on a committee can be a Thankless task, congratulations on a successful event where the exhibitors seemed most content and were extremely sporting. The atmosphere was one of friendly unity in support of our breed and each other.
It is an Unfortunate fact that we as a breed are losing Type, Whether in a bid for genetic diversity or some other motivation. For me, Type is highly important and must be prized, find it, nurture it and value it above all things.
So I have tried very hard to be constructive in my critiques, comment is not intended to offend or belittle. If judges keep writing Nice, Nice, Nice, instead of offering advise and experienced criticism, how do exhibitors and breeders know how their stock is perceived. Of course these are only my opinions.

Class 1 – Veteran Dog (2,0)
1 MISTLIN, Mrs S D Maycourt Starman By Crookwood Sh CM
9 & Half year old Liver Male with Strong Bone. He has a good head with strong jaw good eye colour and neat ears well set. Strong neck into good shoulder and strong topline and loin. He carries his tail a little more than I would like. Good feet all around and short nails. He was clearly in excellent spirits and moved well, driving off from behind. BVD & RBVIS
2 CLACK, Mr S T & Mrs E D Molokain Forio
8 yo Black Male, another with strong Bone. Typical of his pedigree with good shoulder and strong topline. Good Tail Carriage. Good Coat. Not so positive on the move as the winner.

Class 5 – Junior Dog (3,0)
1 FINCH, Miss S Molokain Doing The Do At Cetgueli JW
16 Month old Black Male in Excellent coat and muscularity. Good Head and eye, nice neat ears well set, full dentition with scissor Bite. Good reach to neck down to well laid shoulder, strong well sprung ribcage and good topline and loin. Another that is a bit proud of his tail. I would like to see a little more bend of stifle, however this does not stop him from driving and his side gate is impressive. Little close behind but Many are.
2 VALENTINE, Miss F M & Mrs P Ravenho Tallow Tango At Pattonia
17 month Black Male. Maturing Nicley, but clearly at that teenage stage where he knows best. I liked his head, dark eye and ear set good Bite and strong straight teeth good reach to neck into good shoulder placement. Strength coming into loin and croup. He has very good feet and strong bone throughout. Showed drive when he concentrated. Needs Time.
3 EMERY, Mr E J Foxriever Midsummer Magic At Thunderguard
Congratulations, your hard work is paying off. Larger and rangy dog that needs time. He has a good head and dark eye, well set ears and a kind expression. Nice bone and good feet on the front. Shoulder is well set and good spring to rib, loin developing and general muscularity good. His rear is a bit behind his front assembly at this stage, not a new thing in this age group. Loose on the move but further development needed at the rear.

2YO Black Male with a good head and eye colour, nice small well set ears and a good length to his neck. Good Spring to rip and firm topline. He stands on good feet with nice short nails. He is at that middle stage, not a man nor a boy. He could have carried a couple of extra pounds to add that extra finish. Another that is proud of his tail. Moved out well with ground covering side gate which won him the class, Another that could have more width behind.
2 CLACK, Mr S T & Mrs E D Bazzy Inti Anka At Molokain (Imp CZE)
4yo Liver Dog. I liked him a Lot, he’s not the biggest but he is very well put together. Good head with full dentition and scissor bite, nice neat ears well set. Good reach to neck and very good shoulder, strong throughout with very good spring to rib and excellent muscularity. He showed good hind drive but was extremely erratic on the move. It cost him the top spot.
3 TARELLI, Mr R M & Mrs W Firecurl Some Like It Hot At Tarockwood (AI)
4yo Liver male, this dog can only be described as powerful. Excellent bone and very nice feet. Good head and eye colour, strength throughout with good rib and strong loins. Tail Carriage a bit high. Moved well pushing off from behind exhibiting a ground covering gate. A dog that is well made, but lakes some of the elegance the standard calls for.

Class 11 – Open Dog (5,0)
1 EDWORTHY, Mrs M Maycourt Heartbreaker
Today was his day, His overall weight, muscularity and conformation made him a cut above the rest . 3yo Black Male with classic Curly head, masculine with kind expression, Good eye colour well set ears and strong powerful neck. Shoulders are well set with good return of upper arm. He stands on super tight well arched feet and short nails. Good spring to ribs with short powerful loin. Nice hind angulation, moderate and well-muscled. I would prefer he weren’t so proud of his tail at times. Drove from behind showing excellent propulsion and a long clean side gate. BD & BIS
2 BROOKES, Mrs S Infallibles Black Crusader At Kelsmere (IMP NOR)
4YO Male of super type. Best of heads with good eye colour and well set and sized ears. Good length to neck and lovely shoulder placement. Nice length shape and spring to rib cage and correct length of loin. Very Good Croup and well set on tail. Good Bone throughout. Standing on nice tight feet with short nails. He moved well, showing some strong hind drive and enthusiasm for the job. I am told he has recently joined this kennel, he needs time to further his development and overall strength. He is a dog with a promising future. One of the few to carry his tail properly. RBD
3 PARKER-MILES, Mrs N Tengore Mr Moonlight
3 yo Black Male . Super head, good eye colour and well set ears. Male and no mistake about that. Good bite and strong jaw. Nice length to neck and good shoulder placement. Strength throughout body, rib cage and loin. Super bone. Powerful hind drive if a little close at times, very impressive side gate.

7YO Liver Bitch, who comes to life when expertly driven by her fantastic handler. Femanine head with good eye colour and neat well set ears. Good Bite and clean cheeks. Super reach and strength to her powerful muscular neck. Good lay to shoulder and nice spring to rib, very good croup and reasonable tail carriage. Stands on nice feet ( But would benefit from a pedicure). She really comes into her own on the move showing a ground covering powerful hind drive and forward reach BB BVIS BOS
2 CLACK, Mr S T & Mrs E D Molokain Ilusia
8 YO Black Bitch. Very Nice Head and neck and shoulder, Strength through rib cage and loin. Good bone and strength. Nice tail set and carriage. Good coat with thick tight curl. Moved with drive, could not match the drive of the winner.
3 VALENTINE, Miss F M & Mrs P Kelsmere Katherine
12 yo Bitch. Past her best but she moved with enthusiasm and drive. Super coat for age. Well-made throughout. Well done.

Class 13 – Special Vintage Bitch (3,1)

10yo Black Bitch. Neat smaller bitch with good head and eye colour. Good Tailset and carriage Moved OK. Well-muscled and clearly well managed.
2 CLACK, Mr S T & Mrs E D Springcurl Azelma At Molokain
10 and Half YO Black Bitch. I suspect that in her day she was a very nice bitch. She has been in the Cookie jar and is clearly very happy with her lot. She had a super coat and a classic head, stood on super tight feet and was well muscled. Her movement was reluctant.

Class 14 – Minor Puppy Bitch (0)

Class 15 – Puppy Bitch (2,0)
1 COURTIER, Miss D M Maycourt Take Me To The Top
10 month old Black Puppy Bitch, I suspect her young handler will be taking her to the top. Not in her best party jacket, but she has a sweet feminine head with very good eye colour and well set ears. Ample bone and a good reach to her neck, very good shoulder placement with body and loin developing nicely. Good tail set carried well. Super feet and short nails which carried her around the ring showing good hind propulsion and forward reach. She has time and I will watch her with great interest.
2 PERKINS, Mr B J & Mrs S M Maycourt Miss Sweetness At Tengore
Litter sister and Much the same applies as to the winner, Larger stamp but still correct. She in fact was in much better coat. She let herself down with her puppy antics.

Class 16 – Junior Bitch (3,0)
1 MOSKOWITZ, Mrs A L Ravenho Mochara Cadeaux
17 month old Super Young Bitch with a Bright Future. Probably the best coat of the day amongst the Girls. Very Feminine and nothing overdone. Super head and eye, very neat well set ears, very good reach to her neck and shoulder placement. Super Body with good spring to rib, short strong loin and lovely moulding to her croup. She carried her tail well, straight off her back. Moved well enough but needs that I’m special spark to be kindled which will give her the X factor to go all the way.
2 MCKENZIE, Mrs J L Ravenho Toulouse Latresco At Beddgelert
Litter sister to winner, Certainly they are of a Type. Another super feminine head, good eye colour and neat well set ears. Good bone and make throughout. Not in her best jacket she moved well showing reach and drive.
3 GILL & PEAKE, Mrs M & Mrs A Ravenho Midnight Miracle At Saxonholme
Annoying Creature, who has talent and ability to waste and she does. Again Litter Sister to 1 and 2, she has the best head of the bunch, Melting expression with very appealing eye, neat well set ears, very good reach and strength to neck. Well proportioned throughout with super tails set and carriage. Wonderful bone and type stamped on to her. I would love to say moved well, but I have no idea, she was too busy being a dope.

Class 17 – Yearling Bitch (2,0)

Class 18 – Novice Bitch (5,2)
1 COURTIER, Miss D M Maycourt Cover Shot.
10 month old Liver bitch and Litter sister to the Puppy Bitch Winner. They are certainly of a Type with many of the same attributes Sweat head with feminine expression, good bone and make throughout. Standing on Nice feet. Moved well showing drive, extension and an ease of movement. Her coat was not her fortune today.
2 CLINCH, Miss V E Roughyeds Hilda Ogden
4YO Liver Bitch. Neat stamp of bitch with a Lot to like about her, she was shown in the best of health with a good coat and strong muscularity throughout. She moved well enough driving from behind and showing nice front extension. Good head with femininity, good eye colour and very neat well set ears. Tail Carriage a bit high for me and a little close at rear, Could she do a day’s work……all day every day.
3 CLACK, Mr S T & Mrs E D Molokain Alexandrina
4YO Black Bitch of stronger type, coat not at its best but she has a classic curly head with neat ears and a good reach. Good Spring to rib and overall proportions. I would have liked to have seen her harder all over and carrying a little less weight, These certainly affected her movement which was loose. I’m told there is a new puppy in the house and she has gone mumsy

Class 19 – Graduate Bitch (2,0)
1 CLACK, Mr S T & Mrs E D Molokain Hocus Pocus
17 month old Black Bitch that screams breed type. Very Classical wedge shaped head with feminine expression and moulding. Good eye colour and very good bite. Good Length and strength to neck into well laid shoulders, good rib cage and strong loin. She has a fabulous strength and shape to her croup and a well set on tail ( I wish she would not carry it so high) She exhibits very good balance throughout. She moved with Drive and reach. Handler must try to keep her on a line, She has the potential to be a bitch from the top drawer

4yo Black Bitch who was strangely familiar in many ways. I loved her head expression and ear set, Super front and shoulder, Nice neat feet and ample bone. Her coat was very good with a mass of small tight curls. I would like to have seen her a pound or two lighter. She moved well enough but needs greater enthusiasm.
2 MCKENZIE, Mrs J L Firecurl Pop Goes The Weasel At Beddgelert
4 and Half year old Liver bitch of an Athletic Type. Just a Bit lacking In Bone, substance and stamp for me. Having said that she is made well enough with a feminine head and expression. She moved well exhibiting a nice side gate.

Class 21 – Limit Bitch (3,1)
1 HAYES, BIGLIN, WALTON & CHATTWOOD, Miss V, Mrs N, Mrs L & Ms C Gorchest’s Pendlecurls’s Rising Star At Pepperiever (IMP USA)
What a super bitch this is. She has a picture postcard head with the sweetest expression. If anyone wants to understand feminine expression, Take a look at her. She has a very good length and reach to her neck and a super shoulder placement, good spring to her ribcage and a strong short loin. Super feet and straight front legs. Her hind conformation is excellent and she was one of very few that drives straight behind with good width. Her overall assembly and balance are lovely. My only negative would be her size. Beautiful but petite, she screams Elegance
2 BAIN, Mr L & Mr M Crimblescurl Time To Tango At Wenichones JW
Black Bitch of much stronger type than winner. She was a little heavier than I would like and lacked the elegance of the winner. She never the less has a good head with neat well set ears, good reach and strength to her neck. Nice strength throughout, very good ribcage and spring, nice short powerful loin. She carries her tail and has a tendency to move a bit too close behind for ideal propulsion.

Class 22 – Open Bitch (4,1)
1 SPRAGGINS, Mr N & Mrs S D Tusepo Amazing Love
Mid Size Liver Bitch with a super head and very expressive outlook. She has a good length to her neck and a nice placement to her shoulder. Very nice croup and tail set on, however she is rather proud of it on the move. Nice bone type and stamp throughout. She moved well enough driving and reaching.
2 CUMMINGS, Mrs J Molokain Enchanted One
Another black bitch of a larger type. Good Head Eye and Expression, I would like a little more femininity. Good Length and strength to neck, shoulder correct with good return of upper arm. Very powerful through the loin and very nicely moulded croup. She moved well enough, her hind action could be tidier.
3 MOSKOWITZ, Mrs A L Blue Willow At Ravenho
Black Bitch who has a super head eye and expression, good reach to her neck and nice shoulder placement short strong loin and another very nice moulding to her croup. She is well made throughout with ample bone stamp and type. She lakes any real ambition and moves accordingly.

Class 24 – Progeny (2,1)

As I said in my opening statement Type IS EVERYTHING Seek it, find it, Keep it.
A very nice group with good overall construction coats and stamp. They are very young but I expect some stars to emerge from this group.
