Judge’s Critique

I feel very privileged to have been voted by the members to judge this show. It was so nice to see so many Curlies & their owners having a day out after lockdown. Owing to social distancing rules still being in place there was little opportunity for us to socialise and I got to speak to very few people. I hope that despite the heat and humidity you all enjoyed the day out. There were some lovely dogs entered, and it was a pleasure to go over them. Thanks to my excellent steward Karen Palmer for keeping the ring flowing so smoothly.

Veteran Dog (2,0a)

Fielding’s Roughyeds Romeo Reuben Masculine head with dark eyes. Strong neck & good depth to chest. Nice turn of stifle. Good coat of crisp curls.
Barber’s Pepperiever Pheasants Eye Over Blanshard. Pleasing head with good length to muzzle. Strong hindquarters & well set tail. Movement difficult to assess as he insisted on cantering instead of trotting.

Minor Puppy Dog (1,0a)

Clayton’s Lizallwood Mr Bojangles BP Very smart liver full of quality & breed type. Masculine head with pleasing expression. Neck of good length fitting cleanly into well placed shoulders. Level topline, good bone for age.

Edworthy’s Maycourt Heartbreaker Good head with dark eyes, level topline.Needs time for his ribs to spring & to strengthen in his hind movement.
Stubbs Brightmeadow Take Your Time at Densdale Needs time to body up & fill out. Level topline, well laid shoulders & straight front legs.

Junior Dog (4,0a)

Solomon’s Foxriever Mystic Marvel Nice type with good head, expression & dark eyes. Pleasing outline with correct tail set. Good coat with crisp curls.
Preece’s Foxriever Prime Performer Good head with slight stop & oval shaped eyes. Deep chest & level topline. Carries himself well in profile but needs firm up in hind movement.

Bett’s Infallibles Black Crusader at Kelsmere Typical in outline with good reach of neck, strong topline. Excellent hindquarters with good turn of stifle. Ample bone & round feet. Moved out well with good extension.

Driscoll’s Fleetpaw One For Arthur Well off for bone with a deep chest, well sprung ribs and level topline. Would prefer more length of foreface & darker eyes. Good coat with crisp curl.

Tarelli’s Firecurl Some Like It Hot at Tarockwood Well made dog with good layback of shoulder & level topline. Pleasing head with slight stop. He moved effortlessly around the ring showing good front extension.

Tarelli’s Hunters Pride Jurajska Gwiazda at Tarockwood Upstanding dog shown in good condition. He has a good head with an excellent expression, masculine but gentle. Would prefer a little more length to neck. He has a level topline with correct tail set. Tightly curled coat. He moved well with good driving action.
Barber’s Foxriever Picture Perfect for Blanchard He has a stylish outline with a pleasing head & a good reach of neck. Tight elbows & well sprung ribs.

3 Masson’s Tessmene Summer Solstice Unfortunately was not in his best coat.Well balanced with good shoulder angulation & level topline.

Open Dog (5,0a)

Stephens Sh Ch Brightmeadow Never Say Die JW ShCM CC BIS A dog I have judged previously & the same comments still apply. He has matured into a strong masculine dog with a typical wedge-shaped head with dark oval shaped eyes. He has a strong neck with a correct layback of shoulder, well sprung ribs & strong hindquarters. Good coat of tight curls. Extends well on the move.
Titley’s Fleetpaw Wondering Star RCC, Res BIS Pleasing head with good ear set. Straight forelegs, strong pasterns, round feet. Good spring of rib & crisp curly coat. Not quite as strong as the winner in hind movement.
Johnstone & Stokes Sh Ch Talismanic Bag of Tricks Quality dog unlucky to meet the first two. He has a good outline with a level topline & moderate turn of stifle. Strode out well in front, rear movement a bit close.

Veteran Bitch (2,1a)

Spraggins Pepperiever Love In A Mist at Tusepo Res Best Veteran 7 year old. Strong neck, deep chest & good spring of rib. Level topline. A tendency to pace when on the move which luckily she seemed to have forgotten about when she was in the best veteran line up.

Minor Puppy Bitch (2,0a)

Courtier’s Maycourt Stairway to Heaven Res BP Lovely type, good head & eye, slightly arched neck, good chest & straight front. Not in her best coat. Moved OK.
Stephens Brightmeadow Take One Look Nice head with dark eyes & well set ears. Topline needs to strengthen.

Junior Bitch (2,1a)

Whiteheads Foxriever Striking Spirit A bit apprehensive of being in the ring which rather spoilt her movement. She has a nice head with well set ears & a good coat of dense curls.

Yearling Bitch 4,2a)

Moskowitz’s Brightmeadow Moondance Excellent head & eye, ears set well but would prefer them to be a little shorter. Well laid back shoulders, stifles rather straight when standing. Level topline & correct tail set. When moving she had good extension & drive.
Dick’s Crimblescurl Beech A smaller type bitch with a pretty head. Not too happy at being in the ring so her movement was difficult to assess as she tended to creep rather that stride out.

Findlow’s Roughyeds Audrey Roberts Correct outline, good head, neck & lay back of shoulder. Strong well muscled hindquaters. Round tight feet. In full moult.

Graduate Bitch (5,a)

Davies/Margerison Infallinles Black Velvet at Kandrell CC A quality well balanced black bitch. She excelled in outline with correct forehand, deep brisket, well sprung ribs & good hind angulation. Well muscled which showed in her strong co-ordinated movement. Feminine head with lovely eye & expression.
Evans Kukkasen Keita by Caballus Pleasing head but would like darker eye colour. Level topline that she retained on the move. Correct tail set. Not in best coat.
Whitehead’s Fleetwoods Sundevil Empress among Foxriever Nice outline when standing, unfortunately was not happy to be in the ring so did not show herself to advantage.

Post Graduate Bitch (3, 0a)

Carlin’s Celebrated Caramel from Tornado Beta Well put together with deep chest, well sprung ribs, level topline. Good head proportions but her eyes could be a shade darker.

Spraggins Maycourt Hot Love at Tusepo Good wedge shaped head, strong neck into well laid shoulders. Good straight front legs, hind legs with well turned stifles. Round feet. Moved well with drive.
Stephens Brightmeadow Who’s That Girl Smaller type than winner, good front with good depth to chest. Thick coat of crisp curls. Moved well in front but a little close behind.

Findlow’s Ch All I Ever Wanted Golightly with Roughyeds RCC Nicely constructed throughout with level topline, deep chest & well sprung ribs. Good length to loin & tail carried level with topline when moving. Moved strongly with good extension.
