Judge’s Critique
First of all I would like to thank the exhibitors of the Curly Coated Retrievers for their entry. It was one of my last breeds to judge during the day. I was very pleased with the quality of the dogs and I was so pleased to get dogs in my ring with the correct coats with small, tight and crisp curls which is such an important characteristic of the breed and I know it is not always easy to keep them in that condition during the summer months.
PGD (1,0): 1. Duff´s Overbore League of Their Own, large male shown with maximum amount of volume and substance, well shaped masculine head, slight stop, parallel planes, well shaped dark eyes, excellent earset, short neck, goodtopline, very well angulated both ends, too deep in chest for my taste but of good length and good spring of ribs, excellent bone, could be more parallel on the move with a better drive, coat with excellent small, crisp curls, since he was my only male he was automatically Best Dog.
PB (2,1): 1. Eden´s Echoes of Thunder from Tornado Beta with Ricanded, beautiful 9 months old puppy with a gorgeous outline, excellent size and proportions, lovely feminine wedge shaped head, excellent skull and muzzle ratio, oval shaped dark eyes, well set small ears, strong neck and correct topline and tailset, very well angulated front and backend, deep body with good substance for her age, fantastic coat with correct tight, crispy curls, still very young in her movement and with the correct exercise I am sure she will get more muscles and get more steady on the move in the future. She was my Best Puppy and I am sure we will hear more from her in the future as she has so much going on for her.
JB (2,1): 1. Bain & Bain´s Crimblescurl Time to Tango, excellent size and proportions, lovely shaped head with correct length and parallel planes, correct earset, good reach of neck and strong topline, balanced quarters, deep body with correct substance, strong bone, nice feet, moves with excellent sidegait but still a bit unstable coming and going, she has a beautiful coat with correct tight curls. She ended up as my Reserve Best Bitch
YB (1,0): 1. Bain & Bain´s Crimblescurl Time to Tango
PGB (2,2): 1. Wynne-Jones´ Crimblescurl Cherry, beautiful bitch with correct size and balanced proportions, feminine wedge shaped head with correct earset, excellent planes, a touch light in eye, excellent set of neck, correct topline and tailset, deep in body with excellent spring of ribs, very good forechest, she really excelled on the move with lovely reach and drive, fantastic coat with correct small tight crispy curls, I had no doubt awarding her Best Bitch and BOB.
2. Dick´s Crimblescurl Beech, rather strong bitch, nice length in head but too much stop, well shaped eyes and correct earset, good neck and topline but a bit round in croupe, good depth in body with good tight elbows, strong loin, excellent bone, she moved with good reach and drive, not shown in the best coat today that could have a better texture for the breed.
