Judge’s Critique:
I am grateful to Bath Ch show for giving me this opportunity to award my 1st set of CCs in the breed and to those of you who have given me “hands on” support & education over the years. My homework included the Our Dogs A to Z of breeds from 2021 that covered all aspects of the breed with a concise view of judging issues written by Elaine Robinson. This was a quality entry of some 33, exhibits with just 3 absent, with all blk unless stated. Thanks to the stewarding for keeping us all in order, not least my paperwork! The v hot weather was a bugbear for the breed with its mass of tight curls & I admired your determination!

1 Bradstock, Thygesen & Hansen’s Skaringen’s Isinglass Viii Con Redanimo (Imp Nor); 7m & so v promising that I can now see is out of the Res Bitch CC; wedge head with parallel planes & of 50:50 proportions; neck with slight arch & well laid shoulder; clean front with strong pasterns & tight feet; ribs extending well back; coat of crisp tight curls; running a tad close behind but I don’t class that as a fault but a mere matter of growth & development; such a valuable arrival. 1 Richards & Flaher’s Tessmene Red Rum By Kagemusha; 15m liver; nice clean head with slight stop, parallels & brown nose; ex forehand & came on so well as a result; deep chest; tight, crisp curls; he was feeling the heat that understandably made him a little reluctant & lose his topline; I look upon this as an entire one off & look forward to seeing how he takes on his peers as he will surely be one to watch.

1 Kear & Morrey’s Foxriever Infinite Spirit (ai); 19m liver; what an ex type excelling in wedge shaped head of 50:50 proportions & parallel planes; oval oblique eye; clean front with shoulders well laid back & muscular; balanced with a degree of elegance; coat of small crisp curls; chest deep & oval with well sprung ribs & short strong loin; moved soundly, with some rear convergence at full gait, with gd extension; easy to forget he is still a mere teenager with a future to look forward to if he continues to develop on these same lines.
2 Jack’s Maycourt I’m Still Standing; 18m liver ticking so many of the same boxes that don’t need reiterating; he can still fill in loin & was a tad less together on the move, whereby the heat may well have played a part; this is a d that scores in head type as well as his deep chest & ribbing that extends well back; tight feet with well arched toes; coat of crisp tight curls; another one to rate & who should progress onward & upwards
3 Edworthy’s Brightmeadow Man Of Steel

1 Boorman & Brown’s Kahawei Star Catcher; liver just turned 3yrs; strong, sound & upstanding of correct slight length of body with little tuck-up; 50:50 head proportions with parallels; arch to neck flowing freely into well laid back shoulders; deep & oval with well sprung ribs into short, deep, loin; ex tight coat; such a powerful, parallel, gait with reach & drive; was well up there in the challenge.
2 Stephen’s Brightmeadow Rumour Has It JW; 2.5yrs; ex, clean, wedge-shaped head with parallels; what flowing lines with his arched neck, strong & level topline, tailset & carriage; scores in rib that extends well back; powerful loin; well boned with firm pastern & tight feet; was just running somewhat close in rear, beyond natural convergence.

OD (5,0) Fabulous class inc 4 Chs
1 Thygesen’s Nor Ch Skaringens Galileo; just turned 3yrs & suspect I was the only one present clueless as to his connections or his history; but what I did discover was that he outmoved all; so we have the head, the neck, the varied angles; we have the tapers that give such clean lines; we have the croup, coat & tail carriage; we have such a parallel mover with powerful reach & drive; here was the combination I was seeking of strength with elegance; CC & BOB; Group 3 under Jill Peak & turns out he is a UK Gundog Group winner!
2 Parker-Miles’ Sh Ch Tengore Mr Moonlight; 5yrs class act putting in an immense challenge that made me feel so privileged; wedge-shaped head of 50:50 proportions with slight stop & parallels; ex eye & ear; scored in neck & forehand; well sprung oval ribbing with a strong level topline; unexaggerated hind angulation; thick mass of crisp tight curls; his action was a joy as his outline flowed effortlessly with power; delighted to bring him back into the challenge & hand him the Res Dog CC.

1 Mercer & Thomas’ Crimwell Trouble Maker At Stormacre; 14m with a lovely wedge head, proportions & parallels; arch to her neck; such a well laid shoulder & upper arm; level body with some depth & ribs extending well back; strength of bone & pastern with tight feet; ex coat of tight, crisp curls; what particularly impressed was her flowing outline & tail carriage when circuiting that never weakened & remained parallel & powerful; one to look out for on this showing
2 Gadd’s Tessmene Chantilly Lace; litter sister to JD with such gd head proportions; such straight forelegs with strong pasterns; such muscled hindquarters; was just a little anxious on the day but that will pass & her qualities come to the fore; the siblings make an enviable duo.
3 Spraggins’ Tusepo Miss Scarlett

1 Courtier’s Maycourt Cover Shot; 3.5yrs liver who gaited so well & parallel; a tad narrow in muzzle, even for the fairer sex, but with slight stop parallel planes; arch to neck; plenty of substance in her well ribbed body & short deep loin; classically, crisply, coated; well muscled backend with moderate turn of stifle & hocks well let down; moved as you would hope with such a structure; I can now see she was bred in the purple & would certainly expect to see her moving up the proverbial ranks.
2 Harris’ Brightmeadow Wish Come True At Dreamcurl; 2.5yrs with a lovely head, as befits her sex, and with plenty of pluses as regards breed type & not least with her thick mass of tight, crisp curls; giving 12m of maturity away & just that bit lighter & narrower through.
3 T Miss Scarlett

1 Clack & Eddery’s Epsilon Adhara At Molokain JW; 23m liver; would prefer a tad more length of leg both for perfect balance & to be nitpicking; wedge-shaped head of ideal proportions with parallels; oblique, oval, eye; arch to neck; oval ribs extend well back to short loin; hocks well let down & well bent; crisply coated; went well & parallel with drive; would certainly rate her as rather more than simply useful.
2 Courtier’s Maycourt Take Me To The Top JW; 3.5yrs litter sister to PGB that I can now see is bred in the Maycourt/Brightmeadow purple & should have every chance of following suit; she may well have snatched this class but was simply not making the most of herself; her head is outstanding; her conformation is outstanding; her coat is outstanding; we can all have “one off ” days like this & her peers will certainly have to take note when she’s back on form & not taking on the heat.
3 Harrison’s Brightmeadow Never Can Say For Glenbrows

OB (5,0) What a quality class to end on & make ME work, inc 3 Chs
1 Carrick’s Sh Ch Tessmene Tickety Boo; 3.5yrs liver where my judging book reads “sheer class”; what set her apart was her fabulous arch of neck flowing into her well laid back shoulders; her deep, oval, chest with brisket to elbow; her strength of level topline; above all it was her parallel movement with such a powerhouse of a gait. Bitch CC notwithstanding the strong competition.
2 Thygesen & Hansen’s Skaringens Oh So Sharp; 3.5 yrs who almost achieved the “douze point” double for Norway; refined in head w/o being remotely snipy; elegant flowing lines throughout; arch to neck; cleanest of fronts; so well bodied combining that slight length with ribs extending well back; mass of crisp tight curls; like her litter brother she could potentially outmove her rivals & I felt privileged to look & learn. Res Bitch CC
