Activities

The Working Curly
South West Training Hub, 17 April 2024
Wednesday was the first of the South West Training Hub evenings, with trainer Jill Gardner, of Foxcote Golden Retrievers. Taking part were Nina Parker-Miles & Wren – Overbore’s Ace Of Hearts,  Rachel Arnold & Kopis – Roughyeds Regal George At Treecave, and Heather Driscoll & Iris – Overbore Bombette For HisRiver.
Jill said, ‘Well done girls! đź‘Źđź‘Ź What an excellent start to our SW region summer training with the training programme based on the KC Show Gundog Working certificate. Today included training for steadiness in a group, steadiness to a retrieve, marked and memory retrieves and some jumping. Dogs and handlers overcame some challenges to achieve all the exercises!
Nina said, ‘It was a brilliant evening all the dogs showed progression even after a few short hours. Thank you Jill x x’
Rachel was so pleased with Kopis (11 months old), she said ‘Kopis started his Wednesday night gundog training last night through the club. That boy has drive, a working head and speed in spades….!

The next evening session is 15 May 2024. If you’re interested in getting involved contact Nina Parker-Miles.

Nina Parker-Miles also told us about the AHA training she’s organised, she said, ‘thought I would mention that 3 curlies attended the AHA training event last weekend at Chapmanslade in Wiltshire. Me and Wren – Overbore’s Ace Of Hearts,  Suzie and Pixie Rose – Maycourt Miss Sweetness At Tengore,  and Ruby – Tengore Ruby Tuesday. Very good day lots learnt and Jacqueline Warmsley is a good crack . We had 19 people attend some enjoyed it so much they stayed on for the afternoon session too. Thoroughly recommend it for any wishing to brush up on their handling skills. There will be another day next February to get everyone ready for Crufts.

(2) Courtier’s – Maycourt Take Me To The Top
Two little sisters in this class who both presented a super strong but elegant outline, I liked the head and expression on both they both had strong clean necks which led into their super front assembly and straight fore-legs, lovely deep chest, spring of rib, and depth to brisket.
The strength of there hindquarters on both were good and I liked the feel to muscle throughout on both girls and the tail-set was also good on both.
My winner just had that little extra sparkle on the move that separated her from her sister, but both were lovely.

(1) Edworthy’s – Maycourt Heartbreaker (RBOB)
Same sire as my two girls in the previous class, this sire has most definitely stamped his mark on his children.
Lovely balanced shape, pleasing head and eye, good ear-set, his clean neck smoothly ran into his good front assembly & depth to chest, good feel to bone throughout.
Pleasing movement when viewed from all angles. Happy to award RBOB.
