CCRC Gundog Training – South West Hub, 16 July 2025
Gundog Trainer Jill Gardner told us,
We’ve had another super evening with the South West hub training group and their wonderful dogs making such good progress!
We started off with some basics to settle everyone into the group. Some excellent stays and recalls through the line of dogs followed by also picking a retrieve on the way.
We then began to work in pairs, this was something new for some of the young dogs. They did well watching and waiting their turn while their partner dog did a marked retrieve. Once all the dogs had completed a wait and a retrieve we made it a little more challenging with two marked retrieves being thrown. The first dog picking the retrieve as a mark the second dog picking as a memory. We rotated the pairs so all the dogs completed both types of retrieve. It certainly made the dogs concentrate!
To finish we did a group walk up, leaving some memories in the long grass behind us and taking marked retrieves in front. Eventually sending the dogs back for the memories some of which proved quite tricky in the cover.
When this lovely group started I didn’t imagine we would be doing double retrieves in pairs and group walk ups with retrieves in front and behind! Everyone has worked hard to practice the exercises and it’s lovely to see the rewards! Well done.

CCRC Gundog Training –
Northern Hub, 20 July 2025
CCRC Working Co-ordinator Heather Barber told us:
The CCRC held a successful Gundog training day on Sunday courtesy of the Lingholm Estate near Keswick.
Some 11 Curlies (plus 3 labs) and their handlers attended.
The focus in the morning was on a variety of exercises aimed at assessing the dogs (and handlers) abilities. This took place in a cool woodland setting with plenty of cover and scent to ignite interest! Exercises included back to basics, followed by marked retrieves to shot and some unseens. In the afternoon we were able to use a small private bay on the shores of Derwentwater and concentrate on water. There was an ideal easy graduated entry which proved very inviting and allowed all the dogs to successfully take part in the retrieves. The Curlies were in their element!
So pleased to see all making some good progress throughout the day.
Big thank you to all those who attended and braved the inclement weather to get there. Look forward to seeing you all again and learning of your progress.
Here are some photos of the fabulous day at the beautiful Lingholm Estate in Cumbria….
