It was a lovely day, and we saw some exciting results. As you can see, we had some international competitors at the show. Having seen the success over the last year of Jostein Thygesen’s ‘Karo’ – Norsk Ch DK Ch Skaringen’s First Impression, winning Best of Breed at Crufts and going on to gain her UK Show Champion title, this time it was Karo’s son’s turn. ‘Bjarne’ – Ch. Skaringen’s Galileo III, gained his first CC, won Best of Breed, and then went on to win Gundog Group 1 under group judge, Mr Aidan McKeirnan. Bjarne’s sire is ‘Quito’ – Maycourt Kashmir Con Redanimo, owned by our very own Roz Davies.
The other lovely news was that Cathrine Mercer and Louise Thomas’ puppy ‘Tiffany’ – Crimwell Trouble Maker At Stormacre, not only won Best Puppy, she also won her first CC and gained her Stud Book Number at just over 10 months old – what a day for you young lady!

Activities

Show Gundog Working Certificate, 13 January 2026
Ellen Sutton’s ‘Paddy’ – Foxriever Grey Ghost, has gained his Show Gundog Working Certificate at an event held by the Eastern Counties Golden Retriever Club.

Ellen said, ‘I really feel like I won the lottery. He never put a foot wrong all day – despite having a winged partridge fly right into him. It hit him in the face while we were all sitting in line on the drive. He didn’t move. He also stayed still when half a dozen Fallow ran through the line. I was so proud of him.
The judge said Paddy had “the most challenging retrieve of the day, perfectly executed”. It was a runner. The other funny thing was the water retrieve it was down a steep, slippery, muddy bank. We were drawn 10 and several dogs before us had refused to enter the water. The judge said “You can use your voice to encourage him”. I said that I didn’t think that would be necessary as water is his favourite thing. Sure enough he went into the water like a missile as soon as the dummy was thrown. A really good day to show how good Curlies really are as working dogs.

Congratulations, what an achievement!

Health
This week the Royal Kennel Club has launched its Breeding for Health Frameworkhighlighting the most pressing issues within pedigree dog health and setting out how the Royal Kennel Club is going to continue to tackle the challenges facing pedigree dogs.
The framework builds on more than a decade of work, reviewing over 4,000 scientific publications on pedigree dog health and follows on from our Breed Health and Conservation plans. We identified issues and we listened to the community which led to us commissioning a report in early 2025.
The framework is as a result of that report…..
