AGM February 2025 – update

There were over 40 members present at the AGM ahead of the Open Show and here are some highlights.

Finance – a new interest bearing account has been opened and it was agreed that a significant amount should be transferred into it from the Rescue account. Members agreed to the year end moving forward to October 31st to allow more time so that accounts can appear in the yearbook. The accounts were accepted.

Rule amendment – agreed to allow for General Meeting correspondence to be delivered electronically. It will continue to be posted to those who have not provided the Club with an email address.

Health – the Royal Kennel Club (RKC) has amended the health testing ‘ required’ of breeders/stud dog owners. Their initial decision was not to require any testing but this was contested by the Club’s Breed Health Co-ordinator, Nina Parker-Miles. Having re-run the data they changed their mind and the RKC Good Practice is for hip and elbow scoring to be undertaken – they have not separated out hips from elbows, where one is required then both will be. We also had to ask for them to continue to collect data re EIC for future analysis. Currently the RKC do no consider there to be ‘penetrance’ within the breed for any of the three ‘diseases’ that many of us DNA test for.

Judges Education Programme (JEP) – now that the RKC has fully implemented the JEP we wanted to update members on implications. For the JEP the RKC has a proscribed process and we as a club have to adhere to its rules. There is no longer the opportunity for the Club to add its own requirements e.g. the number of dogs to be judged before a judge can move from one category to another. Over time the previous categories, C, B, A3, A1 will not exist the level that judges are at will be available on the RKC website. Initially they were not proposing that there be separate breed specialist / non-breed specialist lists but that is under review.

For judges who have progressed a fair way through the old system but need an A3 assessment it is still possible for them to obtain grandfathering rights (before end 2025) but they quickly need to contact Leslie Bain (Breed Education Co-ordinator) so that an A3 assessment can be organised.

Judges Criteria for Club Shows – confirmed the criteria for our Champ Show is that a breed specialist can judge the show as long as there is an interval of at least 10 years, a non-breed specialist can only judge the show once. To be entitled to be on the ballot a UK judge has to have given 3 CCs and there be a gap of at least two years. For overseas judges they must have given at least one set of CCs in UK and at least two CACs , there must be a gap of at least a year between an overseas appointment and the show.

For the Open Shows the judge has to be Level 2

Club Show Entry Fees – in light of increased cost entry fees for members will be Open Show £8; Champ Show £18.

Officers 2025/26 – following the AGM the Committee decided that the officers of the Club, elected annually, (Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Show Secretary) would continue in their current posts.

Critiques

Upperward Of Lanarkshire Canine Society, 2 February 2025
Judge: Ms Karen McFarlane (Bluebraes)
Open (3,1)
1 BAIN, Mr L & BAIN, Mrs D & BAIN, Mr M, Crimblescurl Time To Tango At Wenichones JW – Intelligent and pleasing head with good ear set. Her chest is deep with good straight legs and length of upperarm. She has a strong neck flowing well onto her well laid back shoulders. Feet are good and tight and tail set is good from her level topline. Well muscled throughout resulting in movement with drive around the ring. BOB
2 CUMMINGS, Mrs J, Molokain Enchanted One, Another lovely girl with gentle head. She has a good front and length of neck. Strong topline and well bent turn of stifle complimenting muscular hindquarters. Although she moved ok, I felt today she lacked the same drive as 1st.

Wealdstone & Northolt Canine Society, 11 January 2025
Gundog Puppy Group
Judge: Colette Perkins
1 Clack, Clack, Batlle-Hunter & Eddery’s Krisbos Leonidas With Molokain Curly Coated Ret. Smart looking upstanding puppy of good breed type and full of quality. Wedge shaped head with a slight stop, strong, clean neck, deep chest with a well sprung ribcage, level topline, muscular hindquarters with a moderate turn of stifle. Moved out soundly with ease and extended well. Pleased to see him awarded BPIS.

Best Puppy in Show
Judge: Tim Ball
Clack, Batlle-Hunter & Eddery’s Krisbos Leonidas with Molokain (IKC). 9 mth old Curly Coated Retriever dog. One I have seen previously and he has come on so much in such a short space of time. Pleasing for type, he presented a balanced outline and has the desired elegance of the breed. Moderate length of neck which is slightly arched, firm topline, rib developing well, muscular loin, correct croup and tail good for set and carriage. Balanced head with slight stop and correct planes, expressive eyes and good dentition. Pleasing angles front and rear and moved out well on the go around with pleasing carriage. Good texture to coat. Very well handled.

Lichfield Canine Society, 5 January 2025
Judge: Dominic Salt
A pleasure to judge this breed with friendly exhibitors, who had braved the weather conditions to attend this show. Great effort everybody.
Puppy, 1 Entry 0 Abs
1st – Krisbos Leonidas with Molokain (IKC) (Mr S T & Mrs Ed & Mrs L & Mr E Clack & Clack & Battle-Hunter & Eddery)
8 month old masculine male dog of mature structure. He is very well built for his age, and is extremely well muscled already. This reflects in his overall structure, which shows good angulations especially at the rear. He stands very well on a strong well boned frame. His head cannot be mistaken for a bitch, and he has a very pleasing neck and set of shoulders. He holds a nice topline both standing and on the move. He has plenty of width across the front, stands on sound feet, turned out in good coat and condition. He has good depth in his ribcage with plenty of heart room. He moved nicely for a youngster, and even out performed some of his older allies. Pleased to award him RBOB and Best Puppy
Junior, 1 Entry 0 Abs
1st – Epsilon Adhara at Molokain JW (Mrs Ed & Mr E & Mr St Clack & Eddery & Clack)
15 month old bitch, who is very well toned for her age. An overall nice structure, with a good size of bitch, on more than adequate bone structure. Angulations at front and rear are pleasing enough, she has a nice depth of chest, and a good topline flowing into a nice length of tail. She was in good coat and condition, and moved steadily but nicely around the ring. Pushed hard for RBOB, but lost out to the younger dog on overall profile.
Young handler was very proficient, but also open to the small bits of advice that I offered, showing he listened as the classes progressed. A handler of promise.
Post Graduate, 3 Ent, 2 Abs
1st – Foxriever Midsummer Magic at Thunderguard (Mr Ej Emery)
A 2 and half year old Nervous male, of larger structure. He has a nice head in shape, with a good eye, nice ears, but expression was spoilt by his nerves. He is a little weak in the back regions, but has a nice topline and an ok front assembly. Cannot fault the quality of his bone, and he was in nice coat. I tried to treat him gently to raise his confidence, but not fully managed it. This unfortunately carried through to his movement, as he was being a little erratic. A very patient handler did all possible to give this boy a chance to show himself off to the best they could. Hopefully in time confidence can be gained fully, and he can enjoy his show career.
Open, 7 Ent, 5 Abs
1st – Molokain Hocus Pocus (Mrs Ed & Mr E & Mr St Clack & Eddery & Clack)
A 2 and half years old bitch of quality. She has a lovely outline with a lovely quality short well set tail. She has a lovely feminine head with large open nostrils, and nice well set ears. She has a nice strong clean neck flowing into a level topline. She has nice angulations both front and rear. A good depth of chest, nice bone, good feet. A very nice specimen which moved effortlessly around the ring. Handled very well, and I was pleased to award her BEST OF BREED and later see she achieved a wonderful Gundog Group 2 placing.
2nd – Bazzy Inti Anka at Molokain (Imp Cze) (Mr St & Mrs Ed Clack)
5 year old Liver male, A nice well proportioned head, with a good eye.
He has good bone, and his angulations were adequate at both front and rear
Experienced handler got this male moving around the ring well, but has not got the flare of the winner.

Torquay & District Canine Society, 2 November 2024
Judge: Barbara Cherry (Shanandi)
G (4,1)
1. Courtier Maycourt Cover Shot This liver bitch was very showy and sound with a striking overall shape. Her head was wedge shaped with skull and muzzle of equal proportions. Her eye was intelligent and expressive with eye colour matching her coat. Her body was strong deep and well ribbed back, her quarters powerful and muscular.
2. Harris Brightmeadow Wish Come True at Dreamcurl. A top quality black youngster with a clean well proportioned head wedge shaped with a strong jaw and dark expressive eyes oval in shape. Her neck was of a good length set into her well laid shoulder. Her body was firm well ribbed a d deep with powerful loin and quarters, she moved well covering the ground with ease. Excellent coat thick, curly and a very good colour.
3. Davies & Bradstock Elgar’s Enigma Tornado Beta Con Redanimo (IMP LTU)
O (2,1)
1. Courtier Maycourt Take Me The Top JW Black litter sister to the graduate winner. She also was so well put together and totally well proportioned, loved her head and expression.
