Breed Representation at Sandringham, 13 & 14 September 2025
This weekend saw Curlies at Sandringham Game and Country Fair, the penultimate show of the year where they were showing off their working skills as well as meeting and greeting the public. On Saturday we had Jo and Charles Mackenzie with their girls Tuppence (Firecurl Pop Goes The Weasel At Beddgelert) and Tresco (Ravenho Toulouse Latresco At Beddgelert) whilst Rachel Arnold and James Dobson were there all weekend with Kopis (Rougheyds Regal George At Treecave).

Rachel said, ‘Considering the dodgy weather forecast, both days were really busy with lots of interest and signposting to the club website. Sunday we got to meet Fred and his new owners, who had met Kopis last year and were so taken by the Curlies they went and got one! Fred will hopefully be going wildfowling when he is a bit older.’
We have one show left of the year, the South of England autumn show where there will be yet another chance to meet our fabulous breed and watch them in action.

Critiques

Darlington Championship Show, 14 September 2025
Gundog Group
Judge: David Craig
It was a pleasure to judge the Gundog Group at my most local all breeds championship show and I thank the committee for the opportunity as well as for the hospitality on the day. As always, the Darlington team had everything ship-shape and working like clockwork.
From a pleasing group, I shortlisted eight dogs…. All were most typical examples of their breeds, shown in good condition and giving a good performance.
Group 2 was the Curly Coated Retriever, Norsk Ch DK Ch Skaringen’s First Impression, what a superb example of this breed, totally out of the top drawer, superbly made all through with excellent forequarters, correct bone and feet, well ribbed, excellent topline and very well angulated hindquarters, her coat is textbook being a mass of small, tight curls and her movement is exceptional. She drives from behind and her stride in profile is a joy to watch, not seen one like this since the Darelyn days, loved her and she pushed very hard for the top spot.

1st Kear & Murray’s – Foxriever Infinite Spirit (AI) – 10 month old Curly Coated Retriever. Balanced wedge shaped head, dark eyes and dark eyes. Strong neck, deep chest and well sprung ribs carried well back. Strong straight bones. Well muscled rear. Moved very well with long reaching stride. BP
Junior 2.
1st Whitehead ‘s – Foxriever Sea Fyre – Another very nice young Curly Coat. Correct wedge shaped head and small ears. Good length to strong neck. Deep chest and well ribbed. Moved with some drive. Shown in good coat.
2nd Whitehead’s – Foxriever Phoenix Rising – Curly Coat. Young lady really not enjoying herself today. I’m sure with more gentle training she can go forward.
Post Graduate 3
2nd Repeat 1st in Junior.
