Minor Breeds Working Test, 14 June 2026
The MBWT took place at Red Hall Farm Gundog Training Ground, Crewe, and this year was organised by the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers.

Keita was actually the Reserve member of the team, but she had to step in, due to Jackie’s other dog, Lexi – Rowancurl Beachcomber, having been unwell in the week leading up to the test.
The team were sporting their new Curly Working Team gear, and looked great….
There were five teams taking part this year – Congratulations to the Flatcoated Retriever Team who won the day!
The final placings were:

3rd Chessies
4th Curlies
5th IWS
Bea said, ‘Great day yesterday competing in the Minority Breeds Working test. Great to be part of such a lovely team. Over the moon with how well Edgar performed and how much he has improved with only being 3!‘
Jackie told us, ‘Absolutely fabulous day at the minority breeds working test organised by the NSDT club. Thanks to the judges and everyone involved. A special thank you to all who were very kind helping me around the ground. It was a privilege to be part of the CCR team and to meet so many lovely people and beautiful, clever dogs.‘
Beverley said, ‘On the 20 May, Olive was invited to be part of the Curly Coated Retriever Clubs Working Team! 24 days of intensive preparations, 450+ miles took us to Crewe this weekend. Our team of 3 tried our very best, in what were the toughest tests I have ever attempted – the Walk Up went on forever with 12 x retrieves in total!! Steadiness was an issue for Olive today but I’m super proud of her! Thank you to Jackie Evans, Bea Barber & our team captain, Heather Barber for your lovely company & to Glenn, of course‘

Breed Appreciation Day & Multiple Choice Exam, 13 June 2026
We had a very successful day on Saturday at the CCR BAD & MCE in Doulting, Somerset, the event was fully booked. Our Chairman, Nigel Spraggins delivered the presentation – an introduction to the breed, it’s history, and the RKC breed standard. Everyone present on the day passed the Multiple Choice Exam.
Thanks go to Nigel, to Nina Parker-Miles for arranging the venue and the catering; to Nina, Suzy Perkins, and Di Courtier for their help and for bringing their dogs so that the attendees could get hands on experience of a Curly, and to our Breed Education Co-ordinator Leslie Bain.
CCRC Championship Show & Gundog Training Day, 11 & 12 July 2026
Our 42nd Single Breed Championship Show, sponsored by Skinners, will take place on Saturday 11 July 2026, at Oswestry Agricultural Showground in Shropshire. Our breed specialist judge is Tiina Illukka (Caballus) from Finland.
There will be the following prizes, courtesy of our sponsors Skinners:

🐾 Reserve Best In Show wins a 2.5kg voucher
🐾Best In Show wins 15kg voucher
Also on the day we will have our wonderful Curly Club Shop, Raffle, and Club Rescue Stand.
Camping can be booked via Fossedata at £15 per night for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Entries close on Sunday 28th June, make sure you get your entries in & don’t forget there will be no extensions….
There will be a Gundog Training Day on Sunday 12th July, facilitated by our Curly Working Co-ordinator, Heather Barber. This event is free for Club Members.

Ozzy’s Gundog Scurry in Aid of Pet Blood Bank, hosted by CAST Dog Training, 14 June 2026
This is an annal event held at CAST Training near Leeming Bar. This year there were 22 dogs entered, with a mixture of Spaniels, Labradors, Goldies, Curlies, and Non-Gundogs – and the Scurry is ran in these groups with an overall winner. There’s a buffet lunch and a raffle. A fabulous £300.83 was raised on the day!
Three Curlies were there, Basil – Firecurl Maxim, and Shirley Buchanan with Glory – Curlies On Wings Crossroad Glory & May – Fleetpaw First Lady. Basil was 1st, Glory 2nd, and May was 3rd. The overall winner with the quickest time was a Labrador called Lottie with 9.9seconds.

1 Cummings – Maycourt Island Girl For Breichside – 18 month old bitch of lovely feminine type with large, dark, kind expression. Strong, well-arched neck flowing into well laid shoulders, balanced by a firm topline and well muscled quarters. Presented in good condition and moved soundly with purpose around the ring. would prefer her carrying slightly less weight. BOB
2 Cummings – Molokain Enchanted One – 7-year old bitch with the prettiest of heads and a soft feminine expression. Correctly constructed throughout with balanced angulation fore and aft. Moved soundly and steadily.
