CCRC Northern Training Hub – Training Day, 25 April 2026
The Club recently held another successful gundog training day on the Lingholm Estate near Keswick which was well supported. This time we welcomed 3 new handlers/ dogs in the morning and 1 observer who came minus her curly! Taking the total number to 8 for the morning session.
The focus was on beginners / adolescents in the morning. This involved a variety of group and individual exercises aimed at assessing the dogs and handlers’ abilities and level. This started with the basics (sit, stay, recall, heel) followed by steadiness and culminating in some basic retrieves in the open and then in cover. The session ended with a much welcome dip (for the dogs) in Derwentwater.
There were 5 handlers in the afternoon session for the more experienced which took place in a cool woodland setting. We were joined by a Munsterlander (handled by a a new member and potential curly owner) and a couple of labradors. The emphasis for this was on more complex exercises at greater distances involving use of stop whistle, developing hunting ability, steadiness to shot and directions with a variety of obstacles to negotiate. It started with a walk up in an open woodland setting, marks were thrown in front and there were blinds to retrieve behind. This was followed by individual exercises involving blinds and a distraction and then water exercises. The latter included a double mark on land and water, with the mark on land to be retrieved first. Whilst this did involve a fair amount of handling, all dogs succeeded which was a good note on which to end the day!
We are indebted to our helpers Bea and Will who were in charge of sorting out the ground, the shot and dummy throwing – not forgetting a very keen young Edward! A young handler in the making! Also, to the Estate for the use of their excellent ground and facilities.

CCRC Breed Appeciation Day & Multiple Choice Examination, 13 June 2026
The Curly Coated Retriever Club is hosting a Breed Appreciation Day & MCE on Saturday 13 June 2026 , at Doulting Village Hall, Chelynch Park, Doulting, BA4 4PL.
– Open to both new and existing judges and enthusiasts with an interest in Curlies
– For those aspiring judges on the JEP education path, the BAD and MCE are necessary for progression. You must be registered on RKC Find a Judge at Level 1 to sit the MCE.
The cost for the BAD presentation alone is £15, for both the BAD and MCE it’s £20.

Int Ch. Swiss Ch. Molokain Shooting Star Avec Springcurl has passed his Selectif B Working Test. ‘Comet’ is owned by Mrs Lynda Batlle-Hunter, Mr Anton Batlle & Mrs Elaine Clack. Lyn said, ‘He was excellent, some difficult split retrieves, blinds and water work but he did it all and with style. This means he is judged to be of a standard high enough to enter a field trial. He needs a good result from the field trial to become French champion. There have only ever been 4/5 champion CCR in France. It is the most difficult country to get a champion title.‘
