CCRC Gundog Training – South West Hub, 11 June 2025
The Gundog Training session organised by Nina Parker-Miles, and ran by trainer Jill Gardner, owner of Foxcote Golden Retrievers, took place on Wednesday evening, in Malmesbury, Wiltshire.
Taking part were Nina & Wren – Overbore’s Ace Of Hearts, Rachel Arnold & Kopis – Roughyeds Regal George At Treecave, Heather Driscoll with Iris – Overbore Bombette For HisRiver, and Alice Morrey with Maple – Foxriever Infinite Spirit. Photos courtesy of Adam Kear.

Nina told us that they practiced steadiness with walk ups with dummies being thrown backwards and forwards with retrieves . Then individual retrieves with double jumps one seen one memory and then individual trouble shooting. Jill then gave a master class in how working tests and field trials are run and judged. Trainer Jill Gardner said, ‘I was so proud of my curly girls! Amazing hard work and such progress. I love it!!‘

Adam was there with Alice & Maple, and he said he wanted to ‘celebrate the Curly Coated Retriever Club South West training hub – gundog training hosted by Jill Gardner – June get together !! Was an exceptional evening, and all the ladies involved had a blast ! Jill started with the basics, then moved onto marked retrieves and then into blind retrieves over fences/walls with multiple dummies sent out. Each dog and handler got stuck in and had so much fun and much success ! We all look forward to the next one !’
The next session is 16 July 2025, 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Lost Dog Tracking Network
Shirley Buchanan & May, Fleetpaw First Lady, have been involved in a search for a lost dog.
Shirley told us, ‘We just helped providing information to the team we didn’t find her. We rarely do if they are moving as the search dogs can’t move as quick as a dog in flight mode they have to work really hard to work things out but they all tracked well.’
A lost dog called Pip, has been found, she’s alive, and back home. The owner said, ‘She’s lost weight, completely dehydrated, the pads of her little feet are worn down, her tail is damaged, she has scratches everywhere and has lost a dew claw… and she is totally exhausted… but she’s HOME. The vets are on their way.
She was found near Rosecroft after someone spotted her at 11.40am. I went straight there, gently calling her name. After a little while, she came running up the road. At first she looked scared, but I sat down just like the rescue team had taught me—and she came running straight into my arms. I still can’t quite believe itÂ
Thank you doesn’t even begin to cover it. I truly don’t think we would have found her without the love, prayers and relentless support from everyone who has been following her story, everyone who gave up their free time to have drones out there and the amazing Lost Dog Trapping Team UK Search & Rescue Network CIC including search dogs Eva, May and Gilbert.’
What a great outcome! Well done to Shirley & May, and everyone involved.
