Judge’s Critique:
An enjoyable engagement on my first appointment in this breed which I have had the pleasure of owning over the years. I was impressed with coats and condition of most here today. Heads varied in quality. It was pleasing to see some promising puppies on show. It bodes well for the future. I thought my top winners were really good examples of the breed. Delighted to see my Best of Breed go on to Group 3, win the Veteran Group and ultimately Best Veteran in Show.
PD (2)
1 Dick’s Firecurl Excalibur Very promising puppy of 10 months. Good liver colour with good coat for his age. Well-proportioned head with correct planes and ear placement. Strong neck of good length leads to well boned front legs. Well off for rib with good length of body. He moved correctly. Should go on to do well.
2 Stephens’ Brightmeadow Rumour Has It Seven months and not as forward as the winner. Finer in head with dark eyes and good length of neck. Lovely legs and feet. Correct rear angulation and in lovely coat for his age. Movement not at his best today.
JD (2,1)
1 Arnold & Dobson’s Roughyeds Regal George At Treecave Just a year old with balanced head and good reach of neck. He has a straight front and the desired moderate rear angulation. He moved well. Just needs to fill out to complete the picture.
PGD (3,1)
1 Barber’s Tonispada Vuori Vincent By Blanshard Well-made boy of 19 months. Fine head with good length of foreface and dark eyes. Correct in front with good round feet. Firm topline and good tail set. Strong quarters with hocks nicely let down. Won here on his free movement.
2 Dooley’s Rowancurl Pullman Porter Broader in head than the winner and lighter in eye. He has a strong neck of good length, straight, well boned front legs. Good length to his ribs and correct rear angulation. Movement was affected by his interest in the smells on the ring surface. He came back in a later class and moved a lot better then.
LD (2)
1 Sutton & Whitehead’s Foxriever Grey Ghost Upstanding Liver boy of 20 months, rich in colour and tightly curled coat of good texture. Strong neck of good length and decent shoulder placement. Well boned through with good depth and width to his chest. He has lovely round feet. Moved correctly showing a happy disposition.
2 Tarelli’s Firecurl Some Like It Hot At Tarockwood (ai) Thicker set all through. He has a correctly proportioned head with slight stop and well placed ears. Good front assembly with good width to his chest. He has good rear angulation. Coat in tight curls although lighter in colour than the winner. He wasn’t as positive on the move or as firm in topline as the other one here.
OD (4)
1 Barber’s Sh Ch Foxriever Picture Perfect For Blanshard At five years is fully mature and presents a picture of strength and balance. Well-developed head with correct planes and dark eyes. Small correctly placed ears. He has a strong neck of good length which lead to correctly laid shoulders. Well developed in body with width and depth to his ribs and firm strong couplings. He has good rear angulation and plenty of width to his second thigh. In good body and coat, He moved well and was handled to advantage. RCC
2 Clack’s Bazzy Inti Anka At Molokain (Cze Imp) Smaller type but still well-proportioned through. Pleasing in head with straight front legs well developed in body with good width and firm in top line. In lovely coat and moving well at the correct pace. A little over done in rear angulation for me.
3 Tarelli’s Hunters Pride Jurajska Gwiazda At Tarockwood (Imp Pol)

1 Stephens’ Sh Ch Brightmeadow Never Say Die JW Sh.CM Well known dog who I have seen often but not judged previously. Does not disappoint in any way on close inspection. Strong through, balanced and free from exaggeration. Lovely head with the desired wedge shape and darkest of eyes. Strong neck of good length leads to well laid shoulders, elbows nicely tucked in. Deep in body with good width to his ribs and strong in loin giving a correct top line and good tail set. Strong, well-proportioned quarters used to advantage on the move. Was on top form today CC and Best of Breed. Delighted to watch him go on to be awarded Group Three, win the Veteran group and go on to Best Veteran in Show. Well done.

1 Rowancurl Pullman Porter
PB (6,2)
1 Clack & Eddery’s Epsilon Adhara At Molokain Smart 8-month liver girl in lovely coat and moving to advantage. Good head which will only improve as she develops. Kind eyes of good colour. She has a good clean neck of correct length. Well bodied and ribbed for her age showing width and depth to her chest. Correct rear angulation. Moved well especially in profile. Should have a bright future Best Puppy.
2 Stephens’ Brightmeadow Come On Eileen Another promising one at only 7 months is not as developed or steady as the winner but so much to like here. Well proportioned head with dark eyes and well placed ears. Strong straight front legs and good shoulder angulation. Good length and depth to her body. She is in good coat and should go on to do well.
3 Stead’s Firecurl Firefly Of Holmecliffe
PGB (2,1)
1 Whitehead’s Foxriever Ritual Flame Well-made girl who wasn’t wanting to cooperate with her handler. Presented a pleasing outline. She has a well constructed front. Turned out in super coat and condition.
LB (4,3)
1 Bain’s Crimblescurl Time To Tango At Wenichones JW Three-year-old maturing well and full of life and vigour. Correct in head with dark eyes, strong neck and straight well boned front legs. She is balanced in body with good width and depth to her chest. She has the desired moderatel angulated quarters with width to her second thigh and a correct tail set. Coat is of good texture and tight curls. A pleasure to award her the RCC.
OB (4,1)
1 Stephens’ Ravenho Up Town Girl For Brightmeadow JW I had the pleasure of judging this one as a youngster and predicted a bright future. She has matured well and turned out to be a worthy champion. Not as big as some but so well constructed and balanced through. Her head has the correct planes, dark eyes and well placed ears giving that typical curly expression. Strong clean neck of good length leads to sloping shoulders. She is well ribbed with good width and depth to her chest and well-muscled, firm couplings. Moderately angulated quarters provide the correct movement. She was presented with crisp tight curled coat. A well-deserved CC but had to give way to her father for Best of Breed.
2 Spraggins’ Tusepo Amazing Love Loved the head on this nicely coloured liver girl. Correctly proportioned with kind oval eyes and a slight stop. Well made through with sloping shoulders and strong quarters. She has a deep chest and good width throughout. Just tended to lose her top line on the move today.
3 Cummings’ Molokain Enchanted One
VB (1)
1 Whitehead’s Sh Ch Kelsmere Kamana For Foxriever Sh.CM Rising ten, looking well and out moving some of the younger ones here. Testament to the breed’s staying power. Well-constructed body with well laid shoulders and good ribs. Firm over her loins. She was in good coat for her age and moved so well.
SBB (2)
1 Stead’s Firecurl Firefly Of Holmecliffe Third in the puppy class and will take longer to come together than those ahead of her there. Pleasing in head which should only improve with age. Well put together in front with sloping shoulders and good, strong well boned legs. Still needing to strengthen behind but has plenty of time on her side.
2 Clayton’s Firecurl Ace Sister to the winner and placed fourth in the puppy class today. She moves well for her age, is pretty in head with correct planes and well-shaped eyes. She still needs to fill out in body as she looks a little tall at the moment. Needs to strengthen behind. She too has plenty of time on her side.
