Judge’s Critique

I would like to thank the Member Club’s for voting for me and therefore giving me the opportunity to award my first set of CC’s as this prestigious Gundog Show.
I would also like to thank the owner/exhibitors for giving me a lovely entry I really enjoyed my day.

1st Mr & Mrs Bett – Elerrinna Untouchable (IMP NLD)

Today this 8 year old black dog looked a picture stacked and then on the move maintained his level topline with free ground covering movement. Has the correct masculine head without coarseness Strong neck leading into well angulated shoulders. One of the few today with forechest something we are loosing in the breed. He has a strong well angulated rear end which on the move provided him with drive and great extension. He had a fabulous coat of tight curls and was shown in hard condition. In the challenge I could not deny him the RCC and BV

2nd Mr P & Ms B Miller & Millichamp- Curlabull Iron Lion Zion ShCM

7 year old black dog of a smaller and more compact build but was well balanced, with moderate angulation front and rear. Lovely dark eye and head with well set ears. Strong neck leading into a level topline with good tail set. Good bone and nice feet. Moved out well but didn’t have the extension of the winner or the quality of coat today.

1st Misses C & L A Mercer & Thomas- Foxriever Star Tribute to Stormacre

7 month old black dog with a lovely head and eye. Flowing outline with good angles front and rear. He will take time to fill his frame but has all the essentials to get there, good bone and nice depth of chest. On the move when settled he showed lovely extension and great promise of what’s to come. His coat had good texture and curl.

2nd Mr P & Ms B Miller & Millichamp-Foxriever Solent Sensation at Wightcurls.

7 month old liver and litter brother to the first, a slightly heavier boned puppy but with similar qualities. His head will come with time but he has a soft expression and nice eye. Good depth of chest with good ribs, more moderate angulation front and rear but showing balance. A little loose on the move at the moment but this will improve with age as will his coat.
Both puppies had lovely out going temperaments.

1st Mrs H Driscoll- Fleetpaw One For Arthur

16 month old liver dog who was of a good size and shape, has a lovely shaped eye of the correct colour. He is very moderate with nothing over done and this showed on the move as once he got into his stride he moved soundly and true. Standing on good feet with good bone. He has a good deep chest with plenty of heart room and a strong topline. His coat was a lovely dark colour with correct texture and curl.

1st Mr K & Miss A Masson & Glover- Tessmene Summer Solstice

13 month old liver well up for size and I would hope he doesn’t get any taller or heavier. He has a good eye colour and shape. I would prefer his head to be more refined. He was a little out of coat today but what he had was a good colour with nice curl..
Good straight front with strong bone. Deep chest with moderate tuck up. He struggled on the move today and never really got into his stride.

1st Mr R M & Mrs W Tarelli- Hunters Pride Jurajska Gwiazda at Tarockwood (IMP POL)

20 month old black dog shown in good muscle tone and condition with a coat of correct curls. Has a well shaped head but for me I would prefer a darker eye. Good length of neck leading into well placed shoulders, deep chest with good ribs. Unfortunately his topline slopes off to his tail and on the move his tail is carried slightly higher than I would prefer. He did move freely and his rear movement was more accurate then the second which won him the class.

1st Mr N T & Mrs F M Titley- Fleetpaw Wondering Star

Upstanding black dog of quality who is well balanced with well angulated front and rear. His head is masculine without coarseness and has a lovely dark eye. Strong neck leading into well angulated shoulders. Level topline which he held on the move. His rear end is well angulated with excellent width of thigh which on the move gave him a sound driving action. He was presented in a tightly curled coat and handled sympathetically. In the challenge he flagged a little and just wasn’t as strong behind as my principle winners but was considered for the RCC.

2nd Mr P & Ms B Miller & Millichamp Curlabull Dark Moon Rising at Wightcurls

Another nice black dog presented in a lovely curly coat. Has a good head and kind eye. Strong topline with a good tail set. On the move he wasn’t as good in the front as my winner, slightly lacking the upper arm and lay of shoulder of the 1st. He has a good rear end with nice angles and well let down hocks. Strong bone and nice feet.

This dog came to life on the move, when stacked he did not show off his qualities, His owner/handler needs to work on getting the best out of him because when he was free stood he was hard to fault and I would have considered him for the RCC. He has lovely balance ,well angulated front and rear which showed in his movement. Flowing topline with correct tail set. Good bone, straight front and tight feet. His coat could have a tighter curl but the texture was good. His head is slightly strong over his eyes for me but he has a good dark eye.

What an outstanding dog of real quality and breed type. On the move his effortless stride covers the ground with perfect foot fall. Showing good width behind and a straight front coming towards you. He is so well balanced with excellent shoulders and upperarm, one of the few with the correct forechest. He has great depth of chest with well sprung ribs and plenty of heart room. Strong topline held on the move with a well set tail. Lovely bend of stifle with good second thigh and well let down hocks. Well muscled throughout. Great bone with lovely catlike feet. He has a coat of small tight curls and crisp texture. The most gorgeous masculine head with the softest expression and beautiful dark eyes. He has great ring presence and commands your attention and is handled to perfection by his owner/breeder and she knows how to get the best out of him. I was so pleased to award him the CC and BOB. Watching him in the BIS ring he gave a faultless performance doing the breed proud and was shortlisted in a strong group.Congratulations.

2nd Misses C & L A Mercer & Thomas- Elkysar Black Arrow Over Stormacre

I really liked this young dog and going over him I could appreciate his qualities. Lovely masculine head with a good dark eye, good reach of neck into well placed shoulders. Good topline with correct tail set. Strong rear end which gave good sound movement. He is slightly longer in the stifle than the 1st and didn’t have the width of thigh. Has lovely quality bone and good feet. Presented and handled well with a good coat of curls. In the challenge for the RCC he just lost his topline and wasn’t as positive in front as the Veteran today but is very worthy of top honours.

1st Misses C & L A Mercer & Thomas- Tynesides My Heart Will Go On To Stormacre (IMP USA)

8 month old black who has lots to like about her, feminine head with a well shaped dark eye. Nice flowing outline with a good reach of neck and well placed shoulders. Good depth of chest with good ribs giving plenty of heart room. Correct underline with moderate tuck up. Good bend of stifle with good width of thigh and neat hocks. Adequate bone and nice feet. Nicely curled coat. On the move she showed lovely extension for one so young and in the challenge for Best Puppy she was more together than the puppy dog today. Best Puppy

2nd Mrs S M Cariln- Celebrated Caramel From Tornado Beta (IMP LTU)

9 month old Liver who has a strong outline with very moderate angulation front and rear but on the move she had a lovely balanced gait. Pleasing head shape with a well shaped eye. Good reach of neck and level topline with the correct tailset. She had good curl to her coat and colour. I would like more spring of rib and width all through as at the moment she is quite narrow.

2nd Mr A M & Mrs D J Whitehead- Foxriever Flawless Finesse

Liver of good size and shape, when stacked she has many things to like about her. Strong topline and good underline with a lovey deep chest and good ribbing. Her head has good planes with a good eye. Her coat was a good colour and curl. I would prefer tighter feet but this can improve with age. She needs more confidence in the showring to fulfil her potential as it was difficult to asses her movement today.

18 month old black of nice size and make. Excellent coat of tight crisp curls. Feminine head with a dark eye and correct size and shaped ear. Good reach of neck into well angulated shoulders , good depth of chest and good underline with moderate tuck up. I would prefer more angulation in the rear to balance her out. On the move today she had a slight rise over her loin which spoilt her topline otherwise when settled she moved well.

1st Mr A & Mrs E M Jones- Lizallwood Hello Again

3 year old black of superb quality and breed type. She is so soundly constructed with well angulated shoulders and rear quarters which on the move gave her effortless true movement. She has a lovely feminine wedge shaped head with a dark eye of correct shape. Small well shaped and placed ears. Strong neck leading in well angulated shoulders with the correct length of upperarm. Good bone and a straight front with neat feet. Lovely deep chest and well sprung ribs with moderate tuck up. Level topline with a well set tail. Strong rear quarters with a well bent stifle and good second thigh. Her hocks were well let down and straight which on the move gave her the soundest movement in the bitches today. Her coat was of excellent curl and texture. She isn’t a flashy bitch but has quality and breed type which ticked all the boxes for me today I was very pleased to award her the CC.

2nd Mr N & Mrs S D Spraggins- Maycourt Hot Love At Tusepo

3 year old Liver bitch of good quality and was close up to the first in many ways today it was just a shame she really gave her owner a hard time on the move. She has a lovely shaped head with the correct eye shape and colour. Long neck flowing into well angulated shoulder and correct upper arm. Her topline today wasn’t as strong as I have seen it and she was just losing it on the stack and on the move. She has a lovely strong rear end with a well bent stifle and neat hocks. She has lovley quality bone and nice feet, although I would prefer shorter nails. Her coat is of good quality curl and colour.

I was really disappointed with the rear movement in this class today not sure if the uneven ground played a part but none of them moved as I had hoped.

1st Mr B J & Mrs S M Perkins- SH CH Kelsmere Kass Of Tengore

A bitch I have always liked and it was lovely to be given the opportunity to go over her. She is of good breed type and quality, well shaped head with the correct shaped eye. Lovely reach of neck into well placed and well angulated shoulder with a lovely return of upperarm. Well sprung ribs with a lovely deep chest and a moderate tuck up. Strong level topline which she held on the move. Well balanced rear end with the correct angulation and width. I really liked this bitch in profile movement she has an ease and elegance about her and she really catches your eye. In the challenge I preferred the limit bitches rear movement and quality of coat today but she is a very worthy Champion.

2nd Mr A M & Mrs D J Whitehead – SH CH Kelmere Kamana For Foxriever SHCM

Litter sister to the 1st and I thought this bitch would be my winner today but she was just carrying too much weight and her rear movement was disappointing. But having said that I love her shape and breed type , she has a flowing outline and is so typical of the breed, I preferred her head to the winner as she has a lovely dark eye and more feminine expression. Long reach of neck into well placed shoulders with correct upperarm. Well sprung ribs with plenty of heart room. Well shaped bone and straight front with good feet. Strong topline with the correct tail set. Well bent stifles with good width of thigh. On the move she just didn’t flow today for me which was a shame as she is a bitch I have always liked. She like her sister is a worthy Champion and on another day could very easily swap places.
