Judge’s Critique

I would like to thank the club members who voted for me to judge this show. I thoroughly enjoyed my day and would like to thank all the exhibitors for bringing their dogs. I had two lovely stewards who kept the ring running smoothly, great job ladies. On the whole movement was my main concern, although some poor handling didn’t help get the best from some dogs. Temperaments on the whole were excellent.

Veteran Dog 1,0
1st Richards & Flaher’s Kagemusha Allspice Alf, black 9 ½ year old. Good overall construction with the required substance. Good forechest and lay of shoulder. Feet could be a little tighter. Super coat although a little more tidying would benefit the overall appearance. Out moved the majority of the other dogs here today, moving with good straight movement and the required power and strength. Best Veteran, Reserve Best Dog.

Special Vintage Dog 0

Minor Puppy Dog 1, 1a

Puppy Dog 2,0
1st Miller & Millichamp’s Foxriever Solent Sensation at Wightcurls, liver 10 months. Substantial puppy who I hope doesn’t get much bigger. Good length of neck into well laid shoulder. Body well developed, deep chest and good spring of ribs. Good feet. Excellent coat type and lovely dark colour. Best Puppy In Show, Best Puppy Dog.
2nd Mercer & Thomas’s Foxriever Star Tribute To Stormacre, Litter brother to 1 and at a different stage of development. In a rather leggy stage and not as balanced in overall appearance. Super head and expression. Strong neck into good shoulders. Angles correct fore and after. More erratic on the move, some good strides when settled. Good promising youngster just needs time to tighten and get it all together.

Junior Dog 0

Yearling Dog 1,0
1st Masson & Glover’s Tessmene Summer Solstice, liver 15 months. Masculine head. Super eye colour and shape. Good strong medium length neck into level topline. Forechest good. Well bodied. Good tight feet. Not in a good jacket, would like tighter, crisper curls. Shown too wet which didn’t help. Movement ok although needs to move straighter, seemed to be all over the place.

Novice Dog 0

Graduate Dog 1,0
1st Tessmene Summer Solstice, repeat from Yearling.

Post Graduate Dog 2, 1a
1st Miller & Millichamp’s Curlabull Dark Moon Rising at Wightcurls, black. I really liked the overall appearance of this boy. Lots to like. Good substance. Strong through top line and loin. His movement really let him down, moving close behind and throwing his front.

Limit Dog 3, 1a
1st Richards& Flaher’s Kagemusha Sunlight, BIS, BD, liver 2 year old. Great overall appearance. Super shape and construction, balance throughout. Head in correct proportions, correct size and shape. Good angles to front and rear. Correct depth of chest. In excellent condition with just the correct amount of weight and lovely muscle definition. Good coat in crisp tight curl. Movement was good (I do feel could be even better if handler was a bit more positive with him.)
2nd Carlin’s Haneslau Cousin Jack, black male. Dog looked quite tense throughout which spoilt overall appearance and movement. Clean wedge shaped head. Strong neck into good shoulder placement. Little too lean in condition for me, should have more covering over ribs.

Open Dog 4, 3a
1st Miller& Millichamp’s Curlabull Iron Lion Zion ShCM, black 7 ½ years. Little heavy in overall appearance, perhaps carrying a little too much weight. Neck looked a little short and throaty. Strong topline with good tail set. Moved ok, although moving close behind at times. Coat ok.

Veteran Bitch 0

Special Vintage Bitch 1,0
1st Hayes’s Firecurl Myrtle Snap By Pepperiever Reserve Best Veteran In Show, 11 year old. Looking fabulous and not her age! Credit to her owner. Smaller bitch moving round the ring with ease. Good coat.

Minor Puppy Bitch 2
1st Clayton’s Firecurl Georgie Porgie RBPIS, BPB, liver 7 months. Real poppet with a super temperament. Very feminine with a sweet expression. Overall I just felt lacking any real substance and I’d be concerned if she will make size.
2nd McKenzie’s Firecurl Pop Goes The Weasel at Beddgelert, litter sister to 1. Very similar comments but not as together on the move as 1.

Puppy Bitch 1,0
1st Whitehead’s Foxriever Flawless Finesse, 11 month liver. Feminine head. Strong neck into good shoulders. Strong through back into developing quarters. Unfortunately this girl lacks overall confidence in the show ring. Very tense to examine and assess. If her owner can persist she hopefully will get there as she has some potential. Just not able to consider higher awards until she presents in a more relax manner both stood and particularly on the move.

Junior Bitch 2,0
1st Carlin’s Celebrated Caramel From Tornado Beta (IMP LTU) liver girl 13 months. Pleasing head. Short neck into well set shoulders. Front angulation good. Good tight feet with arched toes.
2nd Whitehead’s Foxriever Flawless Finesse

Yearling Bitch 3,0
1st James’s Kahawei Teal JW, Super construction throughout. Feminine but still with the correct substance. Excellent head, with correct shape and size eyes. Good strong neck into excellent shoulder placement. Good depth to chest. Strong hind quarters, allowing her to move correctly with effortless gait. Feet tight and neat. Just her changing coat that meant the dog took the top award today. Exciting future and one to watch. Reserve Best In Show, Best Bitch, Best Opposite sex.
2nd Moskowitz’s Blue Willow. This girl really caught my eye. Everything was where it should be. The handler just needs to gain more confidence in the dogs ability and her own. Feminine wedge shaped head. Good strength right through topline. Good tight feet. One of the best coats of the day, full coat of crisp, tight curls. Movement was good, just needs to be a bit more positive to reach full potential. I hope to see this pair out showing in the future. Reserve Best Bitch.
3rd Carlin’s Celebrated Caramel From Tornado Beta (IMP LTU)

Novice Bitch 2,0
1st Carlin’s Celebrated Caramel From Tornado Beta (IMP LTU) liver, repeat from Junior.
2nd McKenzie’s Firecurl Pop Goes The Weasel at Beddgelert, repeat from Minor puppy.

Graduate Bitch 0

Post Graduate Bitch 2,2a

Limit Bitch 2,1a
1st Gamesmere Dancing Queen at Firecurl. Feminine head. Well made throughout. Good angles front and rear. In excellent coat. Little more length of leg for me. Good mover but I would ideally like more animation.

Open Bitch 4, 3a
1st IR SH CH Caballus Keep Left to Malanis (IMP FIN). Overall not feminine enough for me, bit too strong and heavy. Well made forequarters, strong through loin but slightly dipping topline. Seems to be changing coat, although shown very wet which didn’t help. Movement was ok.

Brace 3, 1a
1st Mr P Miller & Ms B Millichamp, two black boys, well matched, super pairing. Moved well together.
2nd Ms S M Carlin, Liver & black. Didn’t move as together as 1. The two were very different in type.
