JUDGES REPORT

My thanks to exhibitors for such a lovely entry and to those who accepted my placing with good grace. On the whole the breed seemed in good fettle although there were a few whose temperament failed to come up to the Standard in terms of being bold and self confident. Feet in some could have done with being tighter, but movement on the whole was very fair, with just a few a touch close behind and lacking extension in rear. Not having been over the majority of exhibits before, I was in the enviable position of just judging what was in front of me.

Minor Puppy Dog (2,0a) 1st Phillips & Harris’s Gladrags Ain’t Mis Behavin. Developing black youngster in good overall condition. Good shape to skull with biddable expression and temperament. Correct dentition. Well balanced between front and rear assemblies and well off for bone and musculature. Moved with fair drive on good strong feet. 2nd Stephens’ Myosotisis Glenfiddich At Brightmeadow (Imp). Very immature liver girl but so willing to please. Bone and overall substance coming along slowly. Head of good shape but muzzle lacking a touch in depth for me. On the move she was a touch flighty but overall a promising youngster.

Puppy Dog (1,0a) 1st Phillips & Harris’s Gladrags Ain’t Mis Behavin.

Junior Dog (3,1a,
1 withdrawn by handler). 1st Mercer & Thomas’s Elkysar Black Arrow Over Stormacre. Well developed black in excellent condition. Good temperament and kind alert eye. Correct shape to skull with clean dentition. Strong neck leading well into forehand. Ideal depth to chest with well sprung ribs. Moved straight and true driving well from strong, well placed hocks and tight feet.

Post Graduate Dog
(2, 1a,1withdrawn by handler). 1st Hodson’s Gamesmere Ginger Snap. 4 year old liver in very fair overall condition. Excellent temperament and kind eye. Good shape to skull with correct dentition. Strong reach of neck. Well ribbed and strong topline. Moved out well on tight strong feet.

Limit Dog (3,0a) 1st Stephens’ Brightmeadow Never Say Die JW. Substantial black of excellent type, in correct coat, and of good size and overall balance. Biddable attitude and kind alert eye. In excellent condition throughout and correct clean dentition. Ideal shape to skull with correct earset. Strong reach of neck leading to ideal depth of chest and sprung ribcage. Well muscled in coupling and over loin. Well balanced between front and rear assemblies, allowing a smooth, effortless action covering the maximum ground with the minimum effort. Good etension front and rear. Strong, tight feet completed the picture. CC, his second I believe, and BOB. 2nd Lacey’s Fleetpaw First Officer. Well balanced black in good overall coat and condition. Correct shape to skull and kind attitude. Strong neck and well sprung, deep chest. Good length to height ratio. Moved out with positive drive, although his front feet could be a touch tighter for me. None the less and good example. 3rd Fielding’s Roughyeds Romeo Reuben.

Open Dog (2,1a) 1st Mistlin’s Maycourt Starman by Crookwood ShCM. Well coated 4 year old liver of good size and overall balance. Alert and biddable attitude. Correct height to length ratio with excellent symmetry between front and rear assemblies. Well boned and muscled throughout. Correct skull shape and clean dentition. Strong neck and well ribbed. On the move he really displayed his quality, driving without effort from well placed hocks and strong tight feet. Very well deserved RCC.

Veteran Dog (3,1a) 1st Edworthy’s Sh Ch Maycourt Chase The Ace. Well constructed and balanced 7 year old liver.Superb steady attitude. Correct shape to skull and solidly built throughout. Strong topline and well muscled over loin. Moved out with ease and style. Best Veteran. 2nd Mistlin’s Sh Ch Peppercourt Beech at Crookwood JW. Another balanced 7 year old in very fair overall condition. Kind eye and biddable attitude. Very well muscled and in hard condition. On the day, not quite the smoothness of movement as winner but an excellent example of correct type.

Minor Puppy Bitch (2,0a) 1st Bett’s Talismanic Star Appeal. Young liver developing well in all departments. Good shape to skull with kind, biddable eye and correct dentition. Correct height to length ratio. Well bodied and good underline. On the move, although a touch close behind, her overall drive and ease of efficient action is very pleasing. When it came to the competition for Best Puppy, although both were of developing quality, neither were without their faults. However, despite her immaturity, on the final go around the smooth action of the bitch won on the day. 2nd Phillips & Harris’s Gladrags You Made Me Love You. Sweet youngster in good overall condition. Good skull shape and correct dentition. Developing well in body. Unfortunately, she was somewhat fidgety on the day and this showed in her irregular action. On another day I am sure she could be different.

Junior Bitch (1,0a) 1st Lacey’s Fleetpaw Reach For The Stars. Well coated and balanced young black in good overall condition. Good symmetry between front and rear assemblies and well off for bone and muscle. Unfortunately she was a touch skittish on the day and I am sure she will be better when she learns to settle. Her front feet could be tighter for me.

Post Graduate Bitch (3,0a) 1st Spraggins’ Maycourt Hot Love At Tusepo. Liver bitch so very full of genuine breed type. Excellent overall condition. Ideal shape to skull with biddable expression and correct dentition. Strong reach of neck leading well into ideal depth of ribcage. Strong in coupling and over loin. She excels on the move with an efficient straight action, driving from well placed hocks and strong tight feet. A great future I am sure. 2nd Jones’ Lizallwood Hello Again. Slightly smaller cast black than winner but equally of good type and quality. Sweet nature and wanting to please. Well constructed throughout with developed bone and musculature. Moved out quite well but without the smoothness of winner. 3rd Mercer & Thomas’s Stormacre Marguerita Time.

Limit Bitch (7,0a) 1st Courtier’s Maycourt Crimson Moon. Superb black in tip top condition and so well presented. Perfect coat texture. Ideal skull shape and clean, correct dentition. Kind alert attitude. Well ribbed and full of substance in both bone and musculature. Ideal balance between front and rear assemblies display the ideal symmetry to provide a smooth, effortless action. Topline and tailset maintained throughout. Well driven by well placed hocks and strong, tight feet. Well deserved 2nd CC. 2nd Perkins’ Kelsmere Kass Of Tengore. Another black of quality with correct skull shape and biddable attitude. Strong neck leading well into forehand with well sprung ribcage allowing plenty of heartroom. On the move she was steady and straight but not displaying quire the balanced smoothness of winner. 3rd Margerison & Davies’ Kandrelli Honey Buzzard.

Open Bitch (5,0a) 1st Stubbs’ Kireton Flourish at Densdale. First class black in excellent condition. Well presented and such a steady temperament. Stood as solid as a rock yet with that desirable biddable and alert attitude. Correct shape to skull and clean dentition. Strong neck and well ribbed body. Ideal balance between front and rear. Correct depth to ribcage and proper underline. Moved with style and easy action from well placed hocks and strong feet. A top winner on any day. RCC. 2nd Whitehead’s Sh Ch Kelsmere Kamana For Foxriever ShCM. Another quality example and so typical of the breed. Well balanced throughout with excellent bone and musculature. Moved out well but without quite the ease as winner on the day. 3rd Courtier’s Maycourt Hunky Dory JW ShCM.

Veteran Bitch (1,0a) 1st Perkins’ Kelsmere Kelsey At Tengore. Elegant eight year old black who obviously just loves the showring. Good shape to skull and such a kind eye. A really steady girl without an ounce of nerves. In good condition for her age, she went round the ring with enthusiasm and flair. A credit to the breed.
