CCRC Championship Show, 13 July 2024
We are now in our last week before the much awaited Curly Champ Show. We have a fantastic entry, 66 Dogs, 75 Entries, 7 NFC, and we have a Breed Specialist Judge, Mr Adrian Knight. We are all looking forward to it and hope you see you all there.
We of course will be celebrating that the Curly Coated Retriever Club has been registered with the Kennel Club for 125 years, and there will be a celebration cake… We will also be celebrating that this year is our 40th Championship Show. Such significant milestones!
We will have our prestigious Club Shop where there will be lots of Curly memorabilia, including items commemorating 125 years of the club. We will also have our Raffle & Tombola, and we would be grateful to receive any prize donations for both.
And ofcourse the traditional Picnic…. It’s going to be a great day!

North K9 Lost Dog Tracking Dogs
Lovely news and a fantastic outcome for May, Fleetpaw First Lady, and handler Shirley Buchanan. Last weekend they tracked, found, and reunited Bandit, a Tervuven x Belgian Malanois, with his owners.
Claire Brown, an Admin of the North K9 Lost Dog Tracking Dogs FB Page posted:
‘A super find today for LDT dog May and handler Shirley, Bandit is reunited after some complex tracking from May, who had to find a different way to where she wanted to get to due to stock in the field, once again demonstrating the importance of deploying fully trained tracking dogs to get the job done’

Reactive Dogs
Mechelle Jacques has been in touch to tell us about Ceilidh, Curlabull Northern Dancer, and the special role she has helping Mechelle with her dog training…
Mechelle told us:
‘Now that I am retired from teaching, I have taken my dog trainer role full time. I work with reactive dogs once or twice a week on average, and Ceilidh plays a key role in rehabilitating these dogs. Once the groundwork is done, she is the first dog they get to see at close quarters. She is excellent at giving off calm signals and trusts me that in her work as a stooge dog, she will always be safe. These dogs learn from her that not all other dogs are to be feared, and some are even friendly. She also works as a puppy socialiser, which is her favourite role. Ceilidh loves to meet young pups and teach them how to interact with adult dogs and play with them too. It’s not a bad life for a retired show dog.’
It’s certainly clear there’s no end to Curly talents…. Good Job Ceilidh!!

Puppy (2,0)
1. Mercer & Thomas’ Milky Way Soul Isreal For Stormacre (IMP EST) Black dog, 11 months old. First impressions : what a stunning puppy with a beautiful, yet still masculine head and eyes to die for. On examination, he has a decent forechest, deep ribs, good top and bottom lines and good tail set. Stood on nice legs with OK feet. He is still quite immature and rangy and has slightly loose rear movement. He has an abundance of lovely coat. BPIB
2. Disley’s Firecurl Redwing, black bitch 11 months old. She has a long neck, but less fore chest than 1, but good deep ribs. Her head is not as nice as 1 and she is carrying a little puppy fat. Moved OK.
Junior (4,1)
1. Mercer & Thomas’ Kahawei Catch The Stars Over Stormacre, bitch 14 months old Good front and fore chest development and a good body with deep ribs. Carrying a good coat of crisp curls. Could do with more second thigh.

1. Chattwood & Allmark’s Tusepo Love Me Like You Do At Pendlecurl, black bitch 3 years old. Well bodied, with decent forechest and shown in good coat. Moved OK.
2. McKenzie’s Ravenho Toulouse Latresco At Beddgelert, 2 years old black bitch. She was more elegant than 1, with lovely movement but was unfortunately let down by being unsettled in the ring.
Post Graduate (5,1)
1. Eden’s Echoes Of Thunder From Tornado Beta With Ricanded (IMP LTU) black bitch 2 years old. Very typey bitch, although smaller and more compact than the others exhibited today, but everything was in proportion and in its rightful place – nothing over or under done. She has a very feminine head with correct eyes and neat ears, an elegant neck and well-muscled body and legs, giving a pleasing outline. She looked elegant on the move, showing effortless reach and drive.
2. Moskowitz’s Ravenho Mochara Cadeaux, black bitch, 2 years old. Good length of neck and decent shoulders, but would have liked more upper arm – this was reflected in her movement. Presented in nice tight coat.
3. Green’s Ravenho Comradai Cymro, dog, 2 years old
Limit (3,1)
1. Hodson’s Rowancurl Gentle Gaelor, black dog, 2 years old. Lovely masculine outline – from head through to tail carriage. Good width of chest with deep ribs and short loin. Presented in good hard condition with good coat. He commanded the ring from the off and his movement did not disappoint, keeping a strong level topline while exhibiting plenty of reach and drive. BOB and shortlisted in the Gundog Group under judge Geoff Corish.
2. Moskowitz’s Brightmeadow Moondance, 4 year old liver bitch. She was a bit unsettled in the ring but has a sweet, feminine head and expression. She was in good coat but unfortunately her liver colour was showing slight bleaching. Moved well.
Open (2,1)
1. Cummings’ Molokain Enchanted One, 5 years old mature black bitch in good coat. Pleasing head, with feminine expression, on a strong neck leading to a good front with plenty of forechest, deep, well spring ribs, and deep loin, good level top line, which was maintained on the move, with tail flowing from it. She stood on 4 good legs with plenty of bone. Moved well. RBOB
