CCRC Gundog Training – South West Hub, 24 June 2026
Unfortunately, this training event had to be cancelled due to hot weather this week, the next evening training session is planned for the 22 July 2026.

CCRC Gundog Training – Northern Hub –  at Lingholm, Keswick, 28 June 2026
The Club held another training day on Sunday 28 June 2026 courtesy of the Lingholm Estate. A total of 8 handlers and 11 Curlies attended plus a large munsterlander and a lab. Pleased to welcome 2 new participants – Andrea & family with Margo an 11 month liver bitch and Jo with Tresco a 4 year old black bitch, who had come from further afield.
We were lucky that the weather had cooled off by Sunday, following a heatwave, with a maximum temperature of 17 degrees. That said it was still very muggy / close so we stayed in the lower reaches of the ground, in the woodland and on the shores of Derwentwater to help keep the dogs cool.

The morning session focussed on the adolescents, but all benefitted from `doing the basics` (sit, stay, heel, recall, steadiness and the basic retrieve) this took the form of both group and individual exercises, finishing off with the water.
All bar one attendee stayed for the second session after lunch and cake! This was the opportunity for the novice / more experienced to be put through their paces. We took advantage of the cooler woodland setting and spent some time participating in a `mock drive` involving single or multiple retrieves (mix of blinds and marks to shot with distractions) depending on dog/handler ability. The dogs had to remain steady in line at all times. This exercise proved rather testing especially as there was little scent. The session finished with retrieves on the water and a mixture of blinds and water marks for the more experienced.

A good day training all in all. It was rewarding to witness the dogs and handlers progress throughout the day. A Big thank you to my team of helpers without whom the day would not have been as successful!
