Club News

The Game Fair, Blenheim Palace, 26 – 28 July 2024
Curly Coated Retrievers have been representing the breed in the Sporting Dog Pavillion, at The Game Fair, and what a brilliant weekend the team have had. They were really lucky with the weather with lots of sunshine, in fact at times it may have been a little too warm for Curlies…. All the dogs were really well behaved, and of course charmed the public, as usual.

They have been busy though, taking turns on the stand in the pavillion, taking part in the Sporting Dog Parades, and also the Game Fair Parade in the Main Arena.

The team representing the Curlies over the weekend was Nigel & Sandra Spraggins, with Cerys, Nornie & Merry; Jo & Brett Clayton, with Fennel, Hebe, Clover & Sorrel; Heather & Isla Driscoll, with Beau & Iris; Beverley Snudden, with Olive; Rachel Arnold, with Kopis; Nick Eden, with Megan; Sue Margerison, with River; & Beth Spencer, with Tolly.

On Sunday the Curly Coated Retrievers also took part in the Minority Retriever Team Challenge in the Marlborough Arena. The event was organised again this year by Judy Hempstead of the Working Minority Retriever Club and the final placings were:
1st Chesapeake Bay Retrievers
2nd Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers
3rd Irish Water Spaniels
4th Curly Coated Retrievers

The Curly Team was made up of:
Sue Margerison & River (Sh Ch Infallibles Black Velvet At Kandrelli)
Nick Eden & Megan (Kandrelli Eleonora’s Falcon)
Beth Spencer & Tolly (Crimblescurl Elm)

The overall highest scoring dog of the event was Judy Hempstead’s own Irish Water Spaniel, Eider.

Well done everyone!!

POST GRAD ( 3,1)
1 Evans ROWANCURL BEACHCOMBER. Really nice bitch of good type and size showing a breed typical outline and correct coat. Well balanced wedge shaped head with nice eye shape and colour, Good front assembly with correct lay of shoulder and width to her forechest, plenty of depth to her ribs. Good quality bone and tight feet. Well muscled, she moved OK in the space available. BOB
2 Gill & Peake RAVENHO MIDNIGHT MIRACLE AT SAXONHOLME. Not so well balanced in head as winner, she has enough bone and correct coat. Just a bit narrow all through and not quite sound on her backend to day.

OPEN (3,2)
1 Evans KUKKASEN KEITA BY CABALLUS. Nice bitch who is mature in body showing plenty of depth from well sprung ribs. Another with a very good head and eye shape and correct coat. Good reach of neck and shoulder , just a fraction steep in upper arm, well boned with tight feet. Moved OK but difficult to assess in the space. Just preferred front on her daughter when it came to the decision for BOB.
