Curly Comms

Week Ending: 23/11/2025

Firstly some important updates…

Committee Members
Each year, certain Committee positions come up for renewal. This year, Leslie Bain, Di Courtier, and Carol Johnstone stood for re-election. As the number of nominations matched the vacancies, no election was required. Leslie, Di, and Carol will continue as Committee members.

President
As noted in our October update, the President’s term concludes at the next AGM. Marie Gill has offered to continue, and with no other nominations, she will serve for another four years.

Show Gundog Working Certificate, 21 November 2025
Huge Congratulations to Jeanette Findlow & Marion (Roughyeds Gold Stick Cellar) on achieving your RKC Show Gundog Working Certificate, with the Berkshire Downs & Chilterns Golden Retriever Club. This is Jeanette and Alan’s sixth Curly to get the SGWC.
Jeanette said, ‘Today Marion and I spent the day on a Field Trial to do her SGWC, we certainly got our steps in, lol. Unfortunately they haven’t received the certificates from the KC so they will be posted but she still passed. Thank you to every one who has helped make this happen.

Wildfowling
Dan Pavitt and Balto (Foxriever Shadow Blade) have been out on the marsh. Balto is an apprentice gundog and he’s been out learning his trade. Dan told us, ‘I think the working strain lingers in most Curlies you just need to bring it out. Balto needs a lot of hard work training and progress is slow but steady. At 17 months he is still young and I hope another year will see him develop into a reliable shooting companion. We own just over 30 acres of marsh and a flight pond and have access to more land to indulge my passion of wildfowling. It’s still early days as Balto learns to identify quarry by smell as this will be his most important asset as unlike game shooting, wildfowling takes place early or late in fading light so sighting a shot bird is less likely.’

Rally
Rachel Jack & Gunner (Maycourt I’m Still Standing) have been at a Make A Splash Open Rally Obedience Competition, where Gunner gained an excellent score in both Level 1 and Level 2.
