Curly Comms
The Game Fair
Just under a week to go until the Game Fair at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire. If you’re visiting the show don’t forget to go and see the Curly Coated Retrievers in the Sporting Dog Pavillion. You will also be able to see them in the Sporting Dog Arena taking part in the training demonstrations, and in the daily breed parades.
This year on the Sunday the Working Minority Retriever Club will be taking part in the new Minority Breeds Team Challenge in the Hertford Arena. The teams will be made up of four dogs and their handlers, representing minority gundog breeds. The retriever section will start at 9.30am and will see teams of Curly Coated Retrievers, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, and Irish Water Spaniels. The dogs and handlers will be asked to complete a range of retrieves including seen, blinds, memory retrieves in cover and over jumps, and the tests will be set to simulate a true gundog working environment. The retriever tests will be will judged by Di Stevens, who is an A Panel judge, and there will be trophies for the winners.
Good luck to the CCR working team, we know you have trained hard for it.
Thanks to everyone attending and representing our wonderful breed.
Have a great time….!
The photographs are now on the Show Results page for the Curly Coated Retriever Championship Show. It’s such a shame the weather turned and we had to take them inside. Nevermind at least we have a record of the day.
Maybe we need a fabulous photograph staging backdrop for such occasions, umm… thinking perhaps I ought to suggest that at the next Committee Meeting….

United Retriever Club Specified Breeds Working Test, 23 July 2023
Well done to all those at the URC Specified Breeds Working Test on Sunday at Ash Farm, Ingleby, in Derbyshire. This was a an individual test rather than a team test for Curlies, Chessies, Duck Tollers, and Irish Water Spaniels.
The Curlies had the most entries, with 5 taking part on the day:
Gill Boorman & Austin
Shirley Buchanan & May
Aly Clayton & Monty
Nick Eden & Megan
Gill Flaher & Sam
Some CCRC members were also in attendance to help out and to throw dummies.
Everyone had a great day, enjoyed the experience, learnt alot and took alot away from it – well done everyone!
Great to see our breed so well represented!
