Curly Comms
Curly Coated Retriever Club Championship Show, BAD & MCE
Following the disappointment of the cancellation of our Champ Show due to the high temperatures that were forecast for the Midlands and South of England over the weekend, we are back…!
We have a new date, the Champ Show will now take place on Sunday 21 September 2025. Please be aware that in terms of taking part, this is a new show, and you must enter your dogs in the normal way via Fossedata. We will shortly have the new schedule available, with all the details you need, including the closing date.
The Champ Show will still be held at Oswestry Agricultural Showground, and importantly our judge will still be breed specialist, Nina Parker-Miles (Khanastra). We will also have all your favourite highlights, such as the Club Shop, Raffle & Tombola, and Curly Rescue.
On the same day, after the show, we will also be hosting the Curly Coated Retriever Club Breed Appreciation Day (BAD) and Multiple Choice Examination (MCE).

For those aspiring judges on the JEP education path, the BAD and MCE is necessary for progression. Only those who have met the requirements will be able to sit the MCE, so make sure you are eligible.

Windsor Championship Show, 26 June 2025
Best In Show
Judge: Zena Thorn Andrews
I must admit to having a soft spot for Windsor show. My first ever big green card a Res CC, was awarded here in 1969 to my Wolfhound from judge Karen Linhe! A pleasing line up of 7 lovely dogs awaited me in the early evening of the fourth show day. A most gorgeous setting, with the castle in the background, perfect ground, even though it was a little on the dry side, and baking hot! Would you believe it….in a line up of 7 group winners ALL were bitches!
Reserve Best in Show was the Curly Coat Nor/Dk/Se Sh Ch Skaringen’s First Impression owner Mr Thygesen. Her tightly curled coat, was cool and damped down. She was beautifully presented every time I glanced at her. Moved well all ways. Fabulous temperament.
Northwich & District Canine Society, 15 June 2025
Judge: Duncan Busuttil (Berseydale)
I would like to thank all the exhibitors who entered their dogs under me. It was an absolute pleasure and a most enjoyable day judging the gundog breeds at the Northwich & District Canine Society Premier Open Show. It was a privilege to go over so many quality dogs. I greatly appreciated the sporting attitude of everyone – thank you for your support and good spirits throughout the day. I would also like to thank my steward, who helped me during my judging and make the day a calm and relaxed experience.

1. Dooley’s Violeta Mariposa Horace Du Moulin Du Paulu – Res. Best of Breed/ Best Puppy in Breed – 10 month old male of correct type, size and proportions. Have good substance and correct bone. Excellent crisp coat curls. Correct angulations and already packing some good muscle. Carried himself very well around the ring with correct tail carriage. A quality and very promising pup.

1. Gill and Peake’s Ravenho Midnight Miracle at Saxonholme – Best of Breed – A lovely elegant female of good size and proportions. Correct head and neck, angles on both front and rear and good bone all over. Very good muscle tone that stated power and strength and well enough chest. Correct coat coverage with curls of excellent texture. She moved very well showing power around the ring.
2. Green’s Ravenho Comradai Cymro – A dog with very similar characteristics to 1, just thought that 1 had better angulations at the rear.
Norfolk and Norwich Canine Society, 15 April 2025
Gundog Group
Judge: Paul W Osbourne (Braego)
A strong group, and I know it is an old cliché but not enough places to go around, any of my short list would have been worthy of a top four finish.
Group 2 Sh Ch Molokain Hocus Pocus (Clack, Eddery & Clack) Curly Coated Retriever, close up, a young lady not quite three, black, feminine head with correct wedge, dark eye, strong arched neck, good lay of shoulder, straight front, tight feet, deep chest with good ribbing, moderately bent muscular stifles, well let down hocks, moved around the ring with good extension and drive.
Gundog Breeds of Scotland Spring Open Show, 29 March 2025

(1) 1 Cummings’ Molokain Enchanted One. A very pleasing 6 year old bitch in very good coat and condition. Pleasing head and eye, well developed chest and deep, strong body. Tight at the elbows, well boned, strong loin leading to muscular hindquarters. Her tight, crisp jacked completed the picture. I liked her a lot. BOB and strongly considered for a place in the Gundog Group.
