The Working Curly
CCRC South West Hub, 3 August 2024
Nina Parker-Miles gave us this quick recap on the training last weekend. ‘We practiced steadiness this week with two dogs sitting up next to each other with two marks sent out in different directions. First dog was sent for the second mark over the path of the second dog and then the second dog was sent for the first mark which was over the path of the first dog. We then went on to practicing the dogs jumping. Then a retrieve out of an enclosure that they had to jump out of, then jump into another enclosure, retrieve, back out and back to handler into the first enclosure. So four jumps in all….. All the dogs performed remarkably well, as we were chucking a lot at them. Next training is mid September.

Don’t forget to visit the Events page for details of everything coming up… You will also see our new Calendar, which hopefully brings everything together in one place for easy reference.

Activities

Secret Assignment…
Top Secret News just in, our very own Suzy Perkins has been undertaking a secret assignment away from the Curly world but we are now able to share the following with all our Comms Readers….
“Suzy has been a senior National Honey Show Judge for several years, judging all over the country, from Jersey & Guernsey to the Great Yorkshire Show.  She was approached a couple of months ago for a Top Secret project working with the British Beekeepers Association & Ocado. The plan was to hold a competition for small UK Honey producers. Suzy, along with three other senior Honey Show Judges, was invited to judge the Honey at Ocado’s head office in Hatfield. The winning Honey’s were finally shortlisted, and Nigela Lawson used the honey in one of her recipes… The prize for the winning Honey was £2000”

Many congratulations to Suzette Perkins on a fantastic job.

Wiltshire Game & Country Fair, 10 & 11 August 2024
Curlies were represented by Beth Spencer and Tolly, Crimblescurl Elm, and Beverley Snudden & Olive, Roughyeds Regal Return, in The World of Dogs at this Living Heritage event, at Bowood House, Wiltshire….
Beth told us, ‘Great if hot weekend at Bowood for the Wiltshire Country Show flying the flag for Curlies , with Beverley Snudden & Olive. If we had £1 for everyone who said they’d never seen a Curly before we’d be rich! Shows how important it is to do the meet & greet with friendly & enthusiastic dogs.

Association of Pet Dog Trainers, 8 August 2024
Ethan-James Emery & Murdoch, Foxriever Midsummer Magic At Thunderguard have been training with Lincs Dog Training, and this week were awarded an APDT UK Certificate of Achievement having gained their APDT Improver Good Companion Award.

Open (1) Cummings’s Molokain Enchanted One Super five year old bitch who had the most beautiful head and expression which was enhanced by a lovely eye. Strong through the neck in to well set shoulders, well boned legs and neat feet. Deep through the chest with ribs well sprung and a firm loin. Excellent rear angulation, moderately bent stifles and hocks well let down. She sported a super coat with a tight curl. Moved out well, BOB.

Pontypool & District Canine Society, 21 April 2024
Judge: Mr T Harrison (Glenbrows)
Open (2)
1 Stephens Brightmeadow Rumour Has It. 6 month old and what presence already! So reminiscent of his famous sire. Beautifully constructed, lovely mover with quintessential breed type. Masculine without a hint of coarseness, beautiful head piece and coat quality coming through as you would expect. A truly exciting prospect, BP & BoB and thrilled to watch him top the gundog group.
2 Stephens Brightmeadow Come on Eileen. No disgrace standing 2nd to her brother. This young bitch too has all she needs to carry on to the top level. A very typical curly puppy who will have a bright future too.
